A note on Roon Radio, and it's sometimes greatness

Just thought I’d give a shout out to Roon Radio when it works well. Was listening to Tim Buckley this morning (an album I didn’t know, that was recommended when I’d been listening to Michael Chapman) and 3 hours later after a tour through Buffalo Springfield, Velvet Underground, Byrds, Airplane, Nico, Neil Young, Bert Jansch, a bit of Creedence that fit nicely, some Fairport Convention, and a lot more, I couldn’t have been happier to a varied and interesting tour through some awesome music.

It doesn’t always work - there are lots of areas I feel I justifiably complain about (almost all classical gets opera mixed in with chamber music etc, when I just want a long playlist of solo jazz piano and Roon doesn’t get that’s what I “meant”, etc) but I gotta give a shout out when it’s great. This morning it was great. Right balance of stuff that’s “of course” and stuff that wasn’t obvious at all and just fit. Maybe I gave it an “easy seed” but it knocked it out of the park. Credit where credit is due and all that!

Yes an easy seed and it does do OK on that area of music but even so is not exactly adventurous and too repetitive IMHO. If it is driven by what Roon users actually choose to play it doesn’t make sense that it works well for some seeds but not others. It isn’t exactly new and has had years of training.
