Describe the issue

I left my server at a friend's house by mistake, and she lives in another state. How can I access my music?

Describe your network setup

I have a Calix Gigaspire Blast router and would like to use my Microsoft Surface Laptop as a substitute for my Macbook that I left at my friend's house. I connect to the internet via ethernet cable.

This really isn’t a support related topic.

You have several options in my mind. The first option is by far the most sensible.

  1. Download and install Roon server on a local computer to you, log in and deauthorise your other Roon server.

Issue with this is that unless you have a backup of your other database you will start from scratch.
The other issue is if you have local music at the other location then you don’t have access to this.

  1. get you friend to setup port forwarding on their network for Roon Arc and use Roon Arc where you are.

Downsides here is that your friends network and internet use is not at your control. They could turn off their router or a power cut and you’ll lose your connection to the Roon server.

  1. a VPN, but I won’t explain this option.

  2. listen to music by a different method

Hello @dcurrycrm,

Welcome to our community!

@Mr.Flibble has already provided a great overview of the available options for accessing your Roon server remotely. I’d just like to add a few helpful articles from our documentation to guide you further:

For the best experience when listening to music, we recommend setting up a new local server and unauthorizing the old one. Accessing the server remotely over the internet can sometimes lead to delays or audio dropouts.
