I can’t understand how this isn’t still implemented. I don’t even mind if the random order is kind of ■■■■■■ and not remotely really “random”.
If the issue is regarding processing limits on the server side with big libraries… I suggest: make the ‘random’ order stick until you hit a button to “randomize” again.
Alternatively, have some (10?) random orders created when the server is not doing anything, in the background… then allow us to ‘pull’ those random orders when we want them.
Anything that works, even if it’s not perfect, would be preferible to not having anything at all.
I (obviously) don’t know the architecture of the Roon code. Some of my feature requests over the years are quite possibly hard to implement (eg by-track DSP settings) but this one… I cannot imagine this is hard to implement given that there’s already a toggle for various sortings in the album view. I could even tell you how I would implement it, but what’s the point…
Isn’t this request basically the same as:
The feature request here includes all albums shuffle, but also allows for the shuffle of your filtered albums - eg jazz or daft punk or blues (do you really want to shuffle all of your albums?). Also, the Albums view already has a sorting pulldown so the code is structured in a way that randomizing the album selection should not be hard to add.
