Please see the screenshot below from Bluesound BluOS controller. I really like how each track has a “CD” icon/tag letting me know if the track is lossless or lossy. My collection is a mix of MP3, M4A and FLAC with lots of duplicates.
When I’m putting together a playlist and searching for specific songs, if there are duplicates or slightly different versions/mixes, I’d always want to select the track with the best quality, if available. But right now, I have to go into “Focus” and select “CD Quality” to limit the list to those tracks. It’s a few extra steps for every track I want to add to a playlist, when a simple “CD” icon in the track listing like below would be a huge time saver.
The file type icon may be less useful than you think.
I believe what would help you is adding a section with sampling rate/bit rate, that would achieve what you are seeking to resolve.
I can definitely see that being beneficial.
Also be careful, Some of the roon peeps may grill you if you refer to high bit rate as higher quality as some of the better recordings of albums are the lower variants. But I see what you’re getting at.
Thanks. Yes, as a more generic solution or sample rate/bit rate would be of wider utility. But for my purposes, I only need to know if the track is lossy or lossless.
I’m not an audiophile nut, but I can tell the difference between those two quality levels. And that’s all I’d like to discern for my listening pleasure.
This is what Bluesound does, so it seems like it’s a widely acceptable solution.
And I don’t think I made any mention of sample or bit rate as it relates to audio quality.
