Adding new music from external source

I use a small, Windows 11 PC with a 1TB SSD exclusively for handling Roon.

Until now, when I wanted to add new music, I disconnected the Roon PC, hooked it up to a monitor and transferred the files from another computer or via USB memory stick directly into the Roon PC SSD.

This is a bit of cumbersome; I’d like to put new files on a USB stick, plug it into the Roon PC and put the files directly into the Roon SSD - without having to disconnect the Roon PC and using only Roon software.

Thanks

I have some music on an USB stick, connected to my Cambridge EXN100 network reciever. How can I get my Nucleus One “see” this USB stick and import the music to the internal HDD storage?
I also have some music on my Ipad (purchased from Apple Music).
How can I import this music to the HDD storage on the Nucleus One?
I am new to Roon and the Nucleus, so there is much I have not learnt yet.

Did you install an additional HDD/SSD and installed it into your Nucleus One (or bought it with one preinstalled)? If so then read:

If not then you don’t have an internal storage you can add music to.

I have installed a Samsung Evo HDD drive and formatted it as I should. After formatting, the Roon App said it was done succesfully.

Sorry - it’s a Samsung Evo SSD drive

Then read the document I linked above.

My Roon server shows up on my home network. I fire up my Windows PC and copy the files over the network. Done.

Do some searching the knowledge base or forums for ‘network share’.

You can create network shares in Windows. Then you can just use the Explorer to copy the music files between your computers. No need to use USB sticks to do the cumbersome manual work yourself

My Roon Rock music storage accessed through Windows Explorer on my main computer. It is the same thing when using a Windows OS instead of Roon ROCK. I can just drag and drop files between both my computers.

I’ve found it works better when my centralized storage for sound files stays connected and powered on, so Roon can auto-scan and pick up new music without delays. If I add stuff and don’t see it right away, grabbing the phone and forcing a rescan through Settings > Storage usually does the trick. Sometimes I also check that the drive’s still mounted properly if nothing shows up.
