+1 and a (hopefully) friendly amendment. On the Performances page, add either hearting or rating of performances. More granular than hearting the composition, this new feature would allow recording at least summary judgement about a particular performance.
I would like to replace bio’s and reviews with Dutch versions. The Dutch version of Qobuz often has them. With the upcoming integration in Roon I hope to have the option to use the bio’s and reviews available in Qobuz.
As the roon interface is translated it’s only normal that users can add bio’s and reviews in their own language
Finally, my subscription will come to an end this 10/23/2018. It’s a shame because i loved the way Roon could use my Squeezebox/Transporter, but there are way too many other problems and requests that will never be filled or even answered, particularly this issue and by extension the lack of other sources for identification (discogs, etc.).
Not that I’ve seen.
The devs have spoken directly about discogs and other identification sources. Searching is your friend.
I would like a field to add text about an album…or ability to edit the album review field (add a few comments). At the moment I add pictures of the key pages from the booklet.
I wish I could see some of my tag fields like “Description” and “Comments”. When I ripped CDs I put key info in those fields. I can see the fields when selecting edit.
For DELUXE Editions and other multi-disc expanded versions of album I want to know more about the bonus content.
I also like collectible CDs and audiophile CDs/SACDs/etc. Many are not in the database so Discogs will be a huge improvement, otherwise the mastering credits are not correct and that is one of the most important fields in the credits for me.
First post in 2015, last post in aug 2017, not a word since…
Yep this would be cool. I am trying to find the musical connection between Kool & The Gang and Chicago. I would love to have a space within Roon to write down my notes as I explore and research.
Well, the last post said, it will take awhile, that it is a big project and that we should think in “quarters” til delivery, of which there have been 4 since that post. Since, Roon devs usually do not comment about long range roadmaps; I suspect that @mike thought it was important to let people know that it was on the roadmap even though it was on a longer horizon.
OK, i can understand that Discogs identification isn’t something easy and still requires some heavy changes, but what about the album reviews & bios? The underlying architectural changes required to do this doesn’t seem so big, It’s “just” another tag that we could edit, am i wrong? Are these AMG reviews such a major feature for the devs?
I do not know the answer to your questions. If you go to thread of the post I linked, there is a much longer post earlier in the thread talking about the challenges involved.
Yes, let’s keep this request alive!
Where exactly is that post?
My Post 31 in this thread has the link. Just scroll up about 8 posts. The link is called " Discogs data for UNKLE Sounds?"
yes please! extra vote for this
i have several bio’s which are incorrect, because linked to the wrong artist with same name
i also want to incorporate reviews of albums of other sources…
Hybrid of topic from another thread: if Roon ever goes out of business, the software would be much more useful from and after that point if the service-provided data could be replaced manually. So being able to edit these areas would be key.
Here are related items I would like to edit
ARTIST Bio - fixing is most interesting, adding is conceptually good but not a focus at the moment for me. I would like to add more internet LINKS. Some have Wikipedia which I really like. I would add more of these links plus links to some of the wonderful fan pages with exhaustive discographies and other items.
ALBUM review - I would like to add my comments about an album and could add reviews from other sources. I would like to put comments about best pressings/masterings.
VERSION - I would like to have a comment field beyond the one line VERSION (which I love) that is unique to that version (i.e. comments on the item). I use the comments tag which is visible with some clicks.
PICTURES - Love full booklet photos from Discogs. I add my pics today but if there was Discogs ID then perhaps those pics and additional version notes could be autopopulated. I love my Discogs inventory because I can see pics of the version and notes about that specific version.
bumpity - bump.
Still plugging away ripping all my CDs to disk. There’s so much I’d like to add to my Roon metadata; links, reviews, artist profiles… what an incredibly rich and personal experience Roon could be if I were able to make it mine…
No “official” word?
After this “streaming” 1.6 patch, can we have a final statement about this? Just tell us, if so, why Roon will never ever let us edit these tags…
Or just tell us that Roon is strictly reserved for the english speaking community and we could never replace these AMG reviews with our own reviews in french, german, spanish, etc.
Thanks
I would like to add my tuppence worth to this debate. Back in the day I used to use a windows application called Helium and I thought it was great, it had links to a music database where you could automatically get metadata to enhance the tags on your music files including record reviews, artist bios etc, pretty much as Roon does now. However, it went a lot further and you could add information about record labels such as a website address, being able to add record label logos or pics of the actual labels on vinyl records or CDs. It also had a section on music genres, again including the ability to add an image of some sort to represent the genre and where you could provide an explanation of the type of music and so on. All of these options also included a user input feature as well, so if you didn’t like the review or even the image provided by the linked website then the user could replace it with one of their choice.
I thought Helium was a superb application at the time and the only reason I stopped using it was because I moved from Microsoft to Apple and have been using Apple exclusively now for many years. I really thought I would never find an application to come close to Helium again especially for Apple but Roon certainly comes pretty close and, although I’m generally happy with what Roon provides, it would just put the icing on the cake to be able to add or overwrite those features…I am a coder so I also know that what we are asking is not necessarily all that easy to do but surely no all that hard either…
Anyway, for what it’s worth, that my tuppence worth. I think the ability to add these features myself would be an excellent addition to an already superb application.
