In the case of Roon, then all metadata that is created exists only within the Roon database, it is never written back into the files as file metadata.

This doesn’t take anything away from your original point, but it isn’t strictly true that Roon never writes metadata. It does when you export local media, i.e. any changes you make in Roon will be reflected in the exported files’ tags.

The subtle point is that Roon never writes metadata back into files in the Library (in a Watched Folder) - when using Export metadata is written into newly created copies of the files that are created in the Export folder - and this is NOT in the Library
