Have ROCK on a NUC 8i5BEH in the vanilla NUC fan box. Recently opened it up as the fan was getting quite loud and it looked like an archaeological dig inside with all the dust build-up.
Anybody have any thoughts / experience / comments as to whether there is any pro / con to the Akasa Turing v Plato cases.
I assume the Turing is a bigger / better heat sink but kind of prefer the aesthetic of the Plato.
Anyone had any heat issues with the Plato X8 (or variant) getting too hot?
FWIW, I have around 80K tracks, 7 zones and run headphone filters in 2 of them.
I dont use any other DSP (DSD) in any zone.
Cheers
Never had any issue with my NUC 8i3BEH, with way more intense processing than you (multichannel convolution and upsampling). The Plato X8 is also designed for the more powerful NUC 8i7. Of course make sure your NUC is not in a closed environment and has enough space on the top. Pay attention to apply the right amount of thermal paste.

Cheers, Im 99% sure I will go with the Plato X8.
My NUC sits in an open environment so plenty of airflow (and current dust levels) around it.
Noted on the thermal paste - did you just use what came with the Plato or use aftermarket paste?
Yes, it’s good quality. Make sure to remove the old paste and clean the CPU with alcohol and lint-free cloth (isopropyl is best but alcool from the drugstore should be good). Assembling the Plato X8 is not more compelx than assembling a Nuc in the standard box.

Have plenty of isoprop at hand as use it in my DIY record cleaning solution.
Disassembly / assembly looks straight forward from what I have seen on net.

Core transplanted
Took about 45 mins including disassembly of NUC.
Trickiest part was getting motherboard out of the NUC without thinking it was going to snap.

Jealous. I want one of those but my NUC is older and can find the X7 anywhere.
Try MiniPC.de
They had 6 left when I bought my X7 last week
