· Adding one more voice to the neee for functioning album sorting by release date. I’ve seen some history and now know this has been a known bug for at least two years.
I am, as a consumer, familiar with the general degradation if not disappearance of customer service in our society. Professionally, I am also aware of the inner workings of software dev teams and the many people, charts, columns, ticketing platforms, and buzzwords that are what defines project management in the realm. Here’s the thing. A two year old bug is not project management. You hear of it in every sprint or scrum or stand up or screaming match but it never makes it into the story. But like bad actors who never win a part at audition, the little bugger really matters to someone. Maybe a lot of someone’s. What you have is a failure to respond to the needs and requests of paying customers to fix something you broke. (Cuz it did work) This is a failure of customer service.
I have found over the years (since Roon’s big bang) Roon to be incredibly good at updates and fixes and servicing a product I have never not once regretted buying. But come on guys. Two years. Sorting things the way the thing says it will sort them. Write the story already.

(Although going to check did throw up The Planets as having a July 2026 release date and a date added of 2019 . I’ll probably need to delete and add that one back in )
I don’t know what the OP means but sorting by Original Release Date doesn’t work in Discography (only), where it sorts by Release Date (not original) even if you configure „by Original Release Date“ in Settings. (It does work in My Albums). I posted this in Early Access quite a while ago. It’s probably not a bug as such and by design, but nevertheless it arguably should work.

A quick check on my library, and everything (with correct metadata) appears to sort by original release date for both My Albums and Discography. This is how I have setup Settings → General.
I have no streaming albums in my library, so streaming releases only appear in Discography.
Well when I wrote my EA report, as linked above, sorting was broken in various ways, including Original Release Date simply being ignored in Discography.
The other issues were fixed in EA, but the ORD in Discography wasn’t, last I looked (as linked above), but it was some time ago so maybe it was fixed later. Can’t check now.
FWIW, it still behaves the same for me as it did back then: ORD is observed for Overview but not Discography, and the offending albums do have correct metadata, and I was told by Roon Staff that this is expected behavior but worth investigating.
Thanks for the replies. Revisiting the issue, I realize that the problem is, as is so often true, in my perception. I mostly use my iphone as a remote. I, born and trained in the Western world, read left-to-right by default and generally without reflection. The date sorting in the iPhone display runs in columns, top-to-bottom, which just did not compute to me before now. So, apologies to Roon staff - you are, as I think I said, excellent at keeping things working where Roon is concerned; sadly, you are less adept at compensating for my idiosyncratic numbskulledness. As you were.
