❤️ album v tagging an album as liked

Guys I know this is probably come up a thousand times but I still today get confused how roon works with regards to using the heart like function and just the regular tag function. So logically speaking for me I find the easiest way to like an album is to put it under a tag such as liked albums. But as well you can bucket your liked albums using the heart like option. Do they do the same thing or what is the better option to use long-term if you do like a specific album. I just want to try understand this logic better

Thanks

I view the  function as simply a pre-defined Tag called “Like”, so I’ve never bothered to create a Tag named “Like”. If you have a dog, why bark yourself?

They don’t do the same thing exactly, because with tags it’s possible to create one single overview with all albums and all tracks that are added to that tag.
Also you cannot focus on more than one tag to drill down in your collection (in boolean terms: you always focus on tag1 OR tag2; not on albums that have both tag1 AND tag2). While with hearts, you can drill down to all albums with tag1 that are also hearted.

Tags are infinitely more flexible than the heart. With tags you can create all kinds of grouping for your library, like “90s classics” or “2025 best albums” etc.

You can do that with the heart function and smart playlists as well

See this is what I mean just get very confusing. I’m guessing as well Thomas the way you do this is by using the focus is that right within the heart like ? So you start with the heart and then you filter down depending on what you’re looking for?

im using the heart and tags for different things. The albums I heart is basically my favs and I can easy find them using Focus with heart filter toggeled on.

Tags are a different beast, you are free to make any grouping you want. I have an “Xmas” tag, none of those albums are hearted, but its very convenient to find all xmas albums in one click.
