Ok! Looks like stutters are lost to oblivion, dear friends!
@Michael_Harris these files were very useful!
That’s great news, let’s hope it can continue to work that well for you.
It also gives possibilities for others and Maybe this could also work for @Fernando_Pereira as well.
The Zen Master strikes back!
Yeah! I almost threw this thing away. But it has a precise clock for USB. The truesty audiophiles can’t pass it by! ))))))
Roon Server upsamples and pushes a lot of traffic
No stutters at all. I’m satisfied.
It’s always been a favourite of mine for Roon and HQPlayer playback. I don’t get to use it too much these day’s as it is on a headphone system in the man cave where I have multiple other listening options.
Maybe I will have a listen to mine tomorrow and see if there any stutters
Ah I normally only listen for a short time at that seat. Maybe I will try and read in the seat tomorrow and see what happens
Thanks, unfortunately it needs Windows, which I don’t have anywhere.
So I have spent the last hour and a half listening to music to my headphones using the Stream and the original Zen DAC.
And after about 15 to 20 minutes there started an occasional skip in the music and even though it is about one skip per track it’s really annoying.
I might have to follow the roll back instructions myself if I am going to use this regularly. Maybe I should try HQPlayer first and see if it only happens in Roon
What mode is the skip happening? Haven’t noticed on mine in aio mode.
AIO mode, and it doesn’t seem to affect everyone.
Eventually it went to about every 10 minutes.
You would not expect that to be too annoying at that regularity, but it is quite jarring when it happens. I will test outside of Roon and see if it is only a Roon issue
The most interesting thing is that everything works perfectly with Roon on the Raspberry Pi 4B + RoPieee or VitOS.
Funnily enough I used VitOS for quite some time until the Stream was released. It was the first thing that sounded as good as it to me.
I have a couple of spare Pi’s in the house and I am using LMS and PlexAmp more and more so so I might well fire up another Ropieee and unplug the Stream. It has provided me good service until now.
In that room I have 3 Roon Ready devices but none that can play PlexAmp’s and only the WIIM Pro plus that can play LMS.
I can tell you that it is not just ROON. I also maintain JRMC as a backup just in case as I used it well before ROON existed. The dropouts are there as well. I will be using the files to roll back to the earlier version as well. I will be ignoring any new FW updates from ifi in the future!
Thanks Gary for that information, so I might well do that again myself.
I felt that the Stream was slightly underpowered, and had major issues with using Coaxial at 24/192 in AIO mode for a long time (but not in Roon Only mode) before moving to USB output.
For the time of release it was a very good sounding device, but they never got over the fact that the chipset was already out of date and unsupported for current Linux Kernels as well as being a bit underpowered.
For mine, it happens in both AIO and Roon-only modes.
Sorry to hear about these issues. I’m feeding usb to a Pro-Ject dac. Here is the firmware version.
I won’t be updating needless to say.
My zen sat unused for months after I bought a Simaudio Ace. After using that for a few months, it occurred to me to try running a similarly mothballed mytech Brooklyn plus dac through the ace to see if it improves the sound and boy did it ever. I got the Zen streamer out, updated the firmware (that fixed the problem where it wouldn’t actually play music when you turned it on until you ran three or four songs through the system ) and the sound is phenomenal. But the drops are driving me batty. I tried the recommendations on this stream and nothing has helped. Although I have not tried a USB connection - I’m using SPDIF. is that maybe something that could help?
I’m thinking about buying a new streamer now. I don’t need a dac But it seems like some of the best options have one built in. I was looking at the wiim ultra because it has a screen. Anybody have any thoughts about that as a streamer? What about eversolo dmp a6 as an option? It costs more even used than the wiim. Is there any reasonable expectation it would produce better sound as a streamer only for the Brooklyn? Thanks!
Some people are using older firmware referenced further up on this thread and it has helped some. When using Coaxial I switched it to 24/96 instead of 24/192 and that worked well for me.
The WIIM Ultra looks like a good choice especially via it’s USB output
