Allo Boss2 DAC - volume control not working in Squeezelite

I have three Ropieee with Allo DAC HATs (Original BOSS, Mini BOSS, and BOSS2).

All seem to work fine in Roon/raat;

But with the BOSS2 the hardware volume control does not work in Squeezelite. It does work in Roon, just not from LMS. The original BOSS DAC works fine in Ropieee Squeezelite mode, complete with hardware volume.
I don’t think I am missing anything obvious in LMS setup and I don’t see anything different in squeezelite config on the Ropieee between the different PI/DACs.

Any suggestions? Things to try?

You set the ‘Volume Control’ setting in RoPieee correctly?

I think so. There are not many options to get wrong.
It is set to “Hardware”, exactly the same as the other Ropieee zone with the older original “BOSS” DAC HAT.

Odd that hardware volume works OK in Roon-raat mode, but not in Squeezelite.
This Ropieee in question (with volume not working) is on 1712 in case that makes any difference. The original BOSS Ropieee that works fine is on 1741.
