Hi guys, Im with Optus from Australia, (they dont do CGNAT as per customer rep I just spoke with)
However I am having issues with port forwarding
I am running a Asus RT-AC88U in bridged mode with the Optus supplied Sagecom modem.
I think I require a hand in setting up port forwarding in this dual setup
-Modem NAT page (accessible via a 192.168.0.x address on the webbrowser)
-And Asus router accessible via a static 192.168.1.x address as well
Under WAN Virtual Server/Port forwarding I have enabled port forwarding
Roon is on the K50 Antipodes server.
I am not sure how this needs to be connected with the Sagecom modem and what protocol do I select?
I have tried to point the Sagecom to the Router to the Roon
One issue is i dont have enough numbers haha
-Sagecomm requires - External Port start, External Port end; Internal Port start, Internal Port end, Server IP address.
-Asus requires - External, Internal Port & internal IP address
I have been trying to use different combinations but havent had any success so far
So on The asus I feel internal IP address should be the Roon Core. Not sure where to put that port. Then everything else becomes even muckier.
Can someone please guide? Would be very thankful. Cheers
Addit:
On Sagecaomm i have pointed it towards the router IP address (columns come out wonky)
Server Name
External Port Start
External Port End
Protocol
Internal Port Start
Internal Port End
Server IP Address
WAN Interface
Remove
Roon ARC
a
a
TCP/UDP
b
b
Router ip address
ptm0.1
(Where a and b are port numbers)
And on Asus I have pointed it towards the K50 ipaddress:
External Port|Internal Port|K50 IP Address|Protocol|Source IP
b|c|Roon internal IP address|BOTH||
Hi @Varun_Randhawa
That’s not entirely clear to me.
Which device runs in bridge mode, Asus or Sagemcom?
If Sagecom is actually running in bridge mode without NAT activated - this is important! and Asus in router mode, then I can tell you how it worked for me without much hassle with UPnP, it couldn’t be easier.
Sagecomm is the modem connected to the line & running in bridged mode
Edit Asus is the router and shows the following
In addition, sagecomm has ?Enable IGMP Snooping (Blocking mode) & DHCP server enabled (but the range is weird from 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254) as all devices connected to router begin from 192.168.1.x…never really used the 192.168.0.2 in webbrowser - Ive disabled both of these
I could well be wrong but if the Sagemcom modem is set up in Bridge mode and the ASUS is set up in wireless router mode, you shouldn’t need to set up any PF rules on the Sagemcom. Your Sagemcom should not be doing any DHCP.
You only need to set up a Port Forwarding rule on the ASUS which is handling your WAN and LAN settings.
Guys i got it, finally understood what the terms meant
So you are right mark, Sagecom is a POS optus provided modem, i thought i had it in bridged mode but it wasnt setup. The big clue came from Port Forwarding Two Routers
Just follow the diagram, and the free utility confirms whether you have double NAT going on or not, and makes the subsequent steps and numbers to be put in easy
I was lucky i got a lot of ideas trawling through this forum, eventually everything came through
Thanks a lot @oneofmany@Axel_Lesch as I had come across your previous posts which really helped provide different perspectives.
Port forwarding never really worked now i know why. Just so happened i had a few days off and this was on my mind as a priority. Just got lucky i guess.
Having said that, does double routers reduce signal? It keeps saying poor connection on my android when connected via 4G as testing. But im not in poor reception zone. Even after updating app, its the same.
Poor connection exists even in wifi. Unable to play anything
Id like to know if other people getting this, and whether the way roon signal is routed has anything to do with it.
Bit disappointing
I am not familiar with your modem, but as general rule it would need to be setup in a bridge mode to establish a pass-through to a router where a port forward could be established.
Again I am not familiar with your ISP modem. Some manufacturers use different names for standard names. Example, on a old ATT modem to open a port, their use name was pin hole. Go figure.
@Varun_Randhawa
That’s great news!
Is everything working now or would you still like to change something?
I’m not familiar with your Sagecom modem either, so I could only suggest trying something out if you have the time and inclination.
One more thing though:
In general, however, it is not recommended to have two DHCP servers active at the same time. As is probably the case with your Sagecom and Asus? At least that’s how I understood it.
Because at some point this can cause problems with clients that seem to have completely disappeared from your network.
If possible, I would deactivate DHCP, NAT and WIFI in the Sagecom settings and let the Asus, configured as an access point, do all of that.
Regarding the “poor connection” problem, it might help to reinstall the ARC app.
After uninstalling, reboot the entire network, Roon core and phone, then make a fresh install.
