Looks like your streamer will be covered.
Not via Airplay thoughā¦
See the reply above your post.
So it sounds like if you use AirPlay and it detects a dac directly connected to it, it will play at hires rate.
Now Iām curious if they can get this to work on Ropieee software since they donāt use official AirPlay software.
That is what it seems like to me and what the product manager was suggesting based on their discussions with Apple.
But then itās not using Airplay surely?
The missing piece in this discussion so far is that Roon doesnāt stream anything once Iām away from the home network, right? Maybe I have outdated info, been a while since Iāve regularly been outdoors, given the global pandemic, but, I canāt stream Qobuz using Roon once Iām outside of my apartment.
Apple Music streams everywhere. I see that as an equal, if not greater, deterrent to Roonās future growth than the debate over who they elect to partner with.
The average younger person on the street these days is listening, in large part, on the go. They can use the Qobuz app, or the Apple app, or the Spotify app without Roon. Where are Roonās new customers supposed to come from?
This is a major benefit to Apple Music especially as it allows you to upload or match your music and import it.
You can then use it on the go and easily airplay it whatever device you want.
Itās app is way stronger than Qobuz (if you donāt use Roon).
From looking at other threads it looks like Roon are working on the mobile component. You will in future be able to stream your library outside of the house but right now, this is a strength of AM.
With all due respect to the wonderful crew of Roon employees, they have been discussing mobile use of Roon since Iāve been here, if not earlier.
I should certainly hope theyāve prioritized its development in light of recent news.
I suspect it will be in 2.0.
You are right though, it has been on the cards for a very long time.
There are very long USB cords thatāll work and let you āarmchairā your experience.
Yes I have a 100ft capable one if needs be but I am quite happy for it just to sit on top of my Lumin T2 connected by a regular 5 ft cable into the ML585 for trial purposes.
100 feet? Thatās just showing offā¦
Lmao
I had to buy it for a particular job at work .
It really consists of 4x 25ft sections that all require 5vdc to function as it is way too long otherwise.
This applies to wireless headphones from apple but is another indication that apple are looking at overhauling their wireless protocols.
This is great news, Milesā¦thanks!
Teachable moment for the gang. For what is not so today may be so tomorrow!
Edit: Still equally grateful to Miles, still excited, but, now having read the full piece, Iām not necessarily enamored with the idea of another proprietary protocol.
Will need to see what comes of this.
Of courseā¦
Thatās why I said quite some time back that the landscape this time next year will be considerably different and all of this is just speculation for now.
Itās a good time to be a music enthusiastic IMHO.
This is a pretty cool demo to see what Atmos tracks bring.
I just did the 3 mo. free Apple Music trial subscription. I have 300K Hi Res files on my hard drive, 5200+ are DSF or DFF, the remaining almost exclusively FLAC. You mean to get them into an Apple Music library, I need to convert them into AIFF, ALAC or one of the other supported Hi Res formats?? Something tells me itās not worth the trouble. Thoughts, anyone??
