Apple Music High Res

I did. Do people outside of HiFi communities use that software ?

Also if you just use the Qobuz app without Roon or aurdivana then I have to say you’d be pretty disappointed with the service.

Apple need to offer 16/44.1 streaming for free in order to beat Spotify.

I quoted the part where you said:

"Outside of Roon users (me, you and everyone else here), Apple has essentially destroyed Qobuz and Tidals growth. Why would any regular user switch to those services now ? (Again, who don’t use Roon)."

So you were talking about Qobuz there , yes?

Yes people use Qobuz app alone, people use Audirvana, mConnect Player, Volumio etc to use Qobuz. Many ways to use Qobuz.

When asking about ‘outside of HiFi communities’ then the question doesn’t make sense to be honest.

But anyway I don’t think you got the point of my original answer to your question though…

Thanks for setting straight. Agree bandcamp is the best option, got the penny rate from Apple Music Reveals How Much It Pays When You Stream a Song - WSJ. Perhaps the discrepancy is what they pay out vs what portion of that actually goes to musician (part going to record label, et cetera).

Apologies if I missed your point.

I’m not referring to audiophiles, I’m referring to the broader market. Why would a regular person use Qobuz now if they can get the same high res on Apple Music.

Anyone who is in the HiFi community, audiophile etc will obviously see the benefit of buying, owning and using extra services to enhance their experience.

Qobuz is owned by people who want expansion, growth and ROI. They won’t be able to obtain that with this move from Apple unless they find a new USP. That was my point.

I understood your point.

I answered , so that people can buy hi-res and own it.

Remember Qobuz offer discounts to buy and own the music. And Apple have said they won’t sell lossless & hi-res audio in iTunes Store.

In my linked example, it shows an example of (fake) 24/96 album on Qobuz and the price they charge over the CD quality version…

I get that and all I was saying is that people outside of these forums / HiFi communities don’t buy digital music:

So Qobuz will have to find a new USP if they want to attract more subscribers (which is what their investors who financed them past 2015 want).

If true, this would indeed be a game changer. But what of my ripped CD’s and downloads? Would that be incorporated into the AppleMusic experience? And one of my two endpoints is my MP-60 SSP which works as a network streamer using my Optical Rendu. How would this play out? As it is now, when I use this endpoint I enjoy immersive sound as I have a 5.2.2 system and listen in post processing mode so I have an “Atmos” like experience with Roon as it is. Would hate to lose this experience.

Apple supports uploading your own files (from looking online this may be capped at 100,000 songs).

I think Roon + Qobuz is a much better experience and handles our owned libraries much better.

In terms of flexibility, Roon is far and away better (like you mention with your system).

Yes; as it is I’m able go enjoy an immersive experience with the Lyngdorf an endpoint. I have a 5.2.2.system and use the MP-60 in post processing mode (party mode). It rocks and is one of the features we Lyngdorf users love it so much. I believe it simply takes the stereo signal and sends each channels information to each respective speaker. It’s great.

And limited to lossy AAC.

While the possibilities are there – I would not get my hopes up for Apple to act on them any time soon (if at all). If they don’t care – they just don’t move. Remember it took them two years to implement addressing HomePods as a stereo pair from macOS.

This also a very true.

5 posts were split to a new topic: Fake 24/96 or not?

I inky ask but the concern on this board is that Roon may go away. I could see this as problematic IF most users are headphone users. Apple at this tune is not equipped go support Hifi users with receivers and SSP’s. Hence the question , “Why the concern?” If all of us users used Roon for external speakers with a receiver it would seem to be a baseless concern.

If Apple does that I may chance my mind if shareport airplay is supported.

See points about Airplay. This isn’t just about headphone users.

One HiFi provider has already suggested that you can airplay high res to their streamer using Apple Music.

The concern was more about Qobuz, not Roon itself.

Well, that’s all well and good (for movies) but using Apple TV for the purpose of listening to music would FOR ME required that me tv be turned on. I don’t WANT to have my tv powered on while I listen to music. I just wanna listen to music. If Apple has a app that could reside on my Mac Mini as does Roon with an interface app available on the iPad that would do it for me.

I intend to try it by tethering my iPad mini4 directly by lightning to usb dongle straight into my ML585 DAC
so no reason I would not be the only one to do this.
Sure it would not be “armchair” compatible, you know you have to get off your butt to change album etc but for us vinyl using dinosaurs whats new!

Now yes that probably puts me in a very small minority of Apple envisaged use category but it should work just fine even if they do nothing else which I also highly doubt!

Just all speculation at this stage, we all need to wait a couple months and see how the land lays then!

As a (retired) musician I am not happy with the prospect that maybe soon only a few Big Boys dominate and see the music world purely as a business. The not so well known (= no profitable) artists are then squeezed even more than now, analogous to App Store etc. practices.

Did I miss something? How can you play hires with AirPlay? I’m going to test the handoff feature to my Apple TV and see if same as how Spotify Connect does it. But if d rather have this handoff work from my iPhone to my iMac or streamer.
