It wouldn’t. It wouldn’t be any worse either. And TIDAL / Qobuz might fold given an exodus to simpler more ubiquitous (and now lossless/hires) platforms such as Apple Music or Spotify (which will go lossless this year).
OK, thanks.
I don’t have to imagine it… this has happened.
When Apple announced AirPlay 2, they partnered with many third party audio companies. I remember seeing a page full of logos, including Naim, presented in a keynote.
Yes, they have AirPlay 2 parters:
What I meant to say is that probably Apple wouldn’t be interested in the Roon Ready certification for network players because they are already developing AirPlay 2 and consider it sufficient for the average user.
Unless Apple would embed, leverage and improve the Roon expertise in this field, of course.
I hope they’re busy developing Airplay 3, because Airplay 2 (in my admittedly limited testing) is not up to the task. A 2015 MacBook Pro, streaming 16/44 (possibly) into Apple Music and back out to a Devialet Expert Pro via wifi (its a MacBook!) drops out if I do ANYTHING on the laptop to disturb the karma. Really not acceptable. Added to this, the whole rate switching confusion, and its a mess. I’m going to continue buying CD’s, nurturing a local digital library, and using Roon. My life was much easier before all this “lossless” sales hype! End of rant…
Hello,
@admins, What is your latest statement on this request ?
I may hear that it is not easy to integrate. But will the answer be the same for Spotify HIFI when it will be available ? What are the reasons to restrict only to Tidal & Qobuz ? Roon is top highend but is the service with smallest quantity of streaming services.
I love Roon + Qobuz but Apple made a strong move towards Lossless and HighRes, so it would be great to at least try to work with Apple.
Thanks
For those interested, here are the Apple’s WWDC21 Sessions:
Some of them are related to audio. I’m not sure if there’s something new that could help a Roon–Apple Music integration.
BTW, there’re other promising and interesting sessions covering topics not related to audio.
This could be interesting:
And there’s your answer right there. Whats’ wrong with you and everyone else here sticking to Qobuz (or Tidal)? Or is it just a desire to chase after the shiniest new thing, no matter the consequences?
Xamarin and .NET mostly, it allows them a common code base across ecosystems.
It’s the cost right now. Roon and Tidal is a lot more expensive than Apple Music. This is particularly important for primarily streamers.
The cost? The fear of the deep black silence when Tidal and or Qobuz are gone?
The lower music streaming prices of Apple Music, Amazon Music and Spotify are interesting for some people, I guess.
If Roon is so expensive, then why are you here? You don’t need Roon to stream any service, and even if Apple was magically integrated you still have to pay for both (and save a whopping cost of a coffee each month). Also, how does that expense compare to the cost of your gear that you are streaming through?
They will only be gone because consumers make them gone, not because of anything that Apple, Spotify or other monolithic corporations do. Vote with you wallet as the saying goes. But certainly bow down to the corporate overlords if one must (and FTR I have a household of Apple hardware, but no Apple subs - they’ve gotten enough of my $ imo).
I agree with you.
Apple is using Music, iCloud etc as services (given almost for free) to sell more hardware that are perfectly integrated with them, Mac, iPhone, AirPods, etc and not seeing them interested in supporting Bluesound or Auralic streamers as endpoints, there’s Airplay for that.
It’s like the Nike Running app: they’re offering lots of cool guided runs for free just to hook you in their fashion sport eco system and even if 1 out of 10 will buy a pair of shoes it’s still a win for them.
If Tidal drops their price, doesn’t the need for this integration go away if it’s just about the price ?
I want also mentions that if Tidal lower its price to 9,99€ I’ll probably keep it along with Roon because, at the moment, streaming Apple Music to my Hi-Fi system looks something out of the 90’s

Apple is using Music, iCloud etc as services (given almost for free) to sell more hardware that are perfectly integrated with them,
Which is not a bad thing, as long as (audio wise) they perform at the same level or better the competition. It doesn’t really matter for me if on my streamer it’s the Apple’s or Bluesound’s logo as long at it performs as i want. But, in this very particular case (hires audio) Apple ecosystem is a disaster.

and not seeing them interested in supporting Bluesound or Auralic streamers as endpoints, there’s Airplay for that.
Which again it’s a disaster, hires sound wise.
Bottom-line, the way i see it, neither Amazon or Apple know what is hires and how it needs to be done, and they treat it as such (with disrespect to say at least). For them is just a word with a momentum and some market sex-appeal and a way to attract others customers, hence offering it for free.
I’ve had Roon for a year. It is not expensive but with Tidal it is expensive compared to standalone Apple Music. I use Roon for multi setup control of my Tidal, lyrics and lcd-4 dsp. But if I switch to Apple Music, it has lyrics and I can live without the other elements, it can save me money.
