No soldering needed.

That might be the case, but please compare the other specs, look back at post # 9.

Need to be a little more local! :slightly_smiling_face:

Both the ApplePi DAC and Volume-Clocker are now available for purchase.

I am planning on making a full Roon endpoint ready to go, in nice aluminum case.

Cost around $500. Trying to gauge interest…

At that price you should get takers but a prototype that people can sample is a good start. It’ll be a tough sector though. There are already capable end points out there in that price range.

Would be interested more at around the $300 mark.

I can offer a Roon ready endpoint with SPDIFF output in black acrylic case for $250.

Review of the ApplePi Audiophile DAC from Orchard Audio

Why the mini xlr outputs. I have xlr in on my preamp but I only have standard xlr cables. Surely using full size xlr outputs is best for audio or apart from size am I missing something?

It’s a size thing, normal XLRs would take up half the board. Would not be possible to get the rest of the circuits on there.

These are very good adapters:

Hi Leo,

Do you have a RoonReady image for the Pi? Where can I download it from and does it work with the volume-clocker board to give 2 way volume control?

Thanks
Duncan

Ropieee (https://www.ropieee.org/) is a ready to go Pi image that supports the ApplePi DAC. Volume-Clocker does not require any special software it is transparent to the system.

Thank for the update Leo, Looks like I had miss interpreted this:-

I am working on a nice alluminum case to enclose everything and sell a headless endpoint with ropiee already installed and ready to go. Cost will be around $500.

I am trying to see how many takers I will have in advance.

It will be a few months before I am able to release.

If you want a ready to go system with no case, we can arrange something, send me a pm.

I have just received mine from the first batch. I intend to add it to a Pi already running Ropieee. I’ll report back here when done. As an asides can you suggest a source or part number for mini XLR connectors that will fit?

I have found these adapters to be very good:

Be careful when buying cables that are mini-xlr female to xlr male, I have found they are not always wired correctly on the inside.
