ARC Build 116 is Live!

Android ARC build got stuck in Play Store review, feel free to use APK to get Android Auto support immediately

Hi All,

We’ve been hard at work polishing Car Play support for ARC and are excited to announce that we’ll be releasing Android Auto support with this early access build as well. Happy holidays :slightly_smiling_face:

This build includes a number of fixes and polish for CarPlay! We have made some real progress here and believe that the logout issue alongside several categories of crashes should be in the past now. We don’t declare victory yet and are open to your feedback

Android Auto is still in early development and we want to be sure to get real-world feedback as that will help drive our development efforts. Please note that as it’s the holiday season, our response time and development turnaround will be much slower than usual. Think of this as an opportunity to test things as they are now, and we will plan to ramp up our iterations in early 2023.

How can I test Android Auto?

Simply update your Android device to the latest earlyaccess build. Build #116. Once updated, connect your phone to a car or head unit which supports Android Auto and select Roon ARC from your list of apps.

Here are a few questions which might help guide your feedback:

Stability

  • Does it feel stable?
  • What happens when you change connectivity states when connected?
    • How does it feel on slower networks?
  • What happens with interruptions from other apps? (Navigation apps, phone calls, alarms)
  • When playing audio in another music app, does ARC pause? Vice versa?
  • Does everything play as expected? Streaming content, local, transcoded, etc?
  • Do things load in a reasonable amount of time?

Product

  • Is it missing anything?
  • Is there anything extra you don’t need?
  • Is the music or data you care about presented in a sensible way?
  • Were you able to find what you were looking for?
  • How did the layout/navigation feel to you? Did the menus do what you’d expect?

There are a few issues we’re still nailing down, so please ignore them from testing concerns:

  • Offline mode support
  • Error handling
  • Placeholder images and icon polish

For Android users, if you are having trouble with the latest changes, you are always welcome to switch back to the latest production build using the instructions in the Help Center.

Thank you,
The team at Roon Labs
