G’Day all.
I have seen this elsewhere on the forum but I haven’t seen a resolution. A new car that can’t handle 800 albums on a USB so, I took the ARC route with CarPlay. I notice if I select Library>Artist>My Albums only a max of five are listed. Many artists I have as many as 20 albums but, its truncated to only five with no “show More” option like in the app. I’m too old now to remember all the album names so a search through Library>Albums is in the too hard basket.
Any word on if this will be resolved or is it a CarPlay issue and out of ROON’s hands? Sorry if its a repeat…
Thanks…
This is not a limitation of ARC (or other App store products), but a requirement of Apple CarPlay.
So, nothing can be done?
This is a limitation set by Apple. This official post summarizes matters, but there are others.
Indeed a limitation of Apple’s carplay, it’s a pitty.
But, if you could access only your ‘favorite’ albums or albums with a certain tag, this would be very welcome! Now it is not usable unfortunately.
More a feature than a limitation, so we don’t spend too much time with our eyes off the road. Siri looks fairly well when you ask it to “play album name by artist in Room Arc”.
It’s not flawless though. Just yesterday I got frustrated that I couldn’t get it to understand “play Aghori Mhori Mei by Smashing Pumpkins in Room Arc”. But any name easier than that, and it works.
iPod Classic, + 2 SD cards + iPhone with CarPlay might get you to 800 albums for your road trip!
I don’t want to see all my albums (> 2.500), but only my favorite ones. That should not be so dificult, yes?
That’s not unreasonable. It’s hard to draw the line… favorites sounds like a good compromise to me. I’d say tags may be too distracting, but this is very subjective. Maybe the Roon team can figure something out.
I still think that drivers’ safety is more important than finding an album. The best way to keep our eyes on the road would be to improve the voice-command capabilities.
Limitation of the car, it wont take more than 128gb on a usb drive so my 500gb drive just makes for a 1hr indexing loop never seems to stop and it starts again every time I start the car. Hence looking to ROON ARC as a solution. But CarPlay squeezes functionality to a minimum…
Finding an album would be far less complicated and fraught with danger if it just listed all albums under the artist like every other car audio system. It’s way more distracting and potentially far more dangerous trying numerous methods to track an album by the artist you just can’t quite remember the title of. One of those instances where a seeming good willed intention actually exasperates the problem, causing the very issue they are trying to prevent. We’re not morons, just give people credit and give them the means.
Some suggestions in addition to ARC: An old iPod Classic via USB, a couple of SSD cards, downloaded Qobuz albums
I agree. Full access to all albums of an artist in your library should be possible via the artist view in CarPlay. What else is the artist view good for then? It’s the easiest way to directly navigate to a specific album by a specific artist.
Also for instance the Apple Music App itself has no issues to list all albums by an artist in your library in CarPlay, so it’s definitely possible in CarPlay. But you need to use a different list type (not horizontal but vertical).
I brought up the same issue a while ago in this support thread https://community.roonlabs.com/t/limited-album-display-in-carplay-artist-view-on-arc-ref-e33m58/309331/5
and also made some suggestions on how to solve the issue but it was put aside as being “not a bug, but a feature” and closed soon after.
Not happy with this either, but Roon doesn’t seem to be interested in changing this.
Then again, my library is small enough to completely fit on my phone, so I mostly use Apple Music with the library on the phone. More reliable and easier to use than RoonARC anyway.
Be nice if the ROON ARC app would just load onto the cars OS and the interface be just like that on your mobile device, phone or tablet rather than through CarPlay. Be even better if I could remember my whole library, then I could use the voice prompts and just request to play it. But my memory is not what it used to be and the library is a lot bigger these days!
Hopefully development will continue rather than writing it off putting it in the too hard basket.
The problem for me is that the discs that I want to use ARC to play are the ones that are too complicated to say or remember. I want to hear the new live bootleg that was one of the bonus discs with the Wish You Were Here 50th Anniversary edition. I have no idea what spoken command to tell ARC to find that disc.
