No @Suedkiez sometimes it is helpful to be prompted to try again. Just done that and it comes up with the ARC app all connected. Did this last time and when I tried to use it a few weeks down the line and server connection was the issue.
Picking up on @NickMaz post - I do have a range extended on my network here in the UK. My Sky app tells me that my phone with ARC on and the same main network at home. when the issue arises I should probably check if ARC is accessing main network or using the extender. Is there a way of checking what network the Nucleus is calling on - cannot seem to find anything specific in settings / wheel tab?

That is probably where I will get to if I donāt get it resolved. It just bugs me as I use Tidal all the time in the car and over my network (now via Roon) and bar the odd issue it just works.

Nice one.
Roon ARC is unreliable for casual users, i.e. those who want to use it once in a while on the go.
I am using it every 2/3 months when travelling away from home, and I am experiencing the the same problems as you describe. Port forwarding is set up on a fixed port, and Roon ARC works reasonably well until an update is released then it starts to fail.
Sometimes resyncing at home before travelling solves it, sometimes I have to deinstall and reinstall the app, well for me it is simply failing to deliver on its main purpose.
I have had the same experience - update blew it one time, and done the de and reinstall too. Surprising that Roon have not addressed this - if it worked it would be a cool and powerful thing.
I donāt understand the examples of people who are having communication problems here. I work very well even when Iām abroad. Thereās a problem with your network environment. Whether itās a home network or a carrier network. ARC itself is a very well-made system. If the majority of people are doing just fine and well, other people have to face up to their problems. Donāt pass the problem on to the system.
This is a little unhelpful which I am sure is not meant.
My Roon app says ARC all ok and communicating. My ARC app says not so. There is no logical explanation as to why this is happening and why I am unable to access ARC remotely. Nothing in Roon app says there is a network issue.
Virtually all software has bugs and idiosyncrasies that present themselves haphazardly to users. That is how software gets developed once released.
It is unhelpful and unkind to people that wish to raise an issue to be told most users are fine sort your problem out. It runs against the ethos of having communities like this.
@Chris_McGolpin have you communicated with the support team yet? I ask bc early on I had issues with ARC as did many others. In most instances the resolution was found in network setup or controls managed by the ISP. Iāve used ARC around the US with only minor hiccups.
Iām on a trip to Japan and Iām using Japanās USIM. Iām listening to 24bit 96kHz lossless sound source without any problems with the Roone ARC connected to my home, and with no slowdown at all. Itās not that Iām not unaware of the frustrating situation. As someone who sells software and hardware design and technology for a company, I would say that most software problems are caused by insufficient configuration and environmental requirements, unless theyāre truly fatal. If thereās a bug in the program, the same feedback should be received from the majority of people. Of course, special conditions can be small in number, but at least the connection condition would be very, very far out of the question. I recommend using TailScale without any more stress.
My Roon ARC (on my Samsung S25 Ultra) has been failing to connect for a couple of weeks. The same situation as you described. So when I was walking home from lunch today I tried un-installing Roon Arc and re-installing it on my phone. That fixed it.
@Haruhata thanks for your post. Is Tailscale pretty sttraighford to sort without causing issues with Roon server generally? I have downloaded the App.
ARC is a nice to have so I would not want to install and have other issues with main Roon.
Which Nucleus model do you have?
@bruc_cumming - yes done that a few times but then when I am in the car and open up ARC it says āno can doā!
You do not know that the majority of people are doing fine and well. More likely the majority of people, like myself, love ROON and simply accept ARC wont work for us and have given up. I am relatively tech savvy and had very patient help from ROON and from users on here but cannot get ARC to work even after going step by step and setting up port forwarding etc.
We just move on use the rest of ROON, which is fantastic.
Itās really, really easy. Install tailscale on the smartphone youāre trying to use, sign up for membership and register your device. After that, set tailscale in the settings of Rock or Roon Server web pages. Then tailscale allows the two devices to communicate. At least in the situationsA I tested, the solution worked very well and the speed was good.
Itās hard to say for sure because I donāt know what kind of network environment I live in, but Iām speaking from the standpoint that I can listen to music on Arc without any problems with Rock at home, at least overseas.
If ARC is full of problems and there are so many bugs and issues that many people are experiencing network problems, it will be updated every week by the developer of Roon to fix the problem in the first place.
The answer is that they made tailscale available for those who are experiencing such problems. This is because there are so many environments around the world where the network does not work smoothly so that individual users can set up and use the forwarding they want, and because of that, there are so many users who cannot use Arc smoothly.
This is not a problem that Roon can solve. Again, itās very likely a problem for individuals or their carriers, and even for the country.
Port Forwarding is clearly the issue. I have an AT&T fiber service that does not allow messing with the settings. My network is run behind this box using a separate IP range. The AT&T is kept standard at 192.168.1.x. My internal network is run as a 10.0.0.x network. P
ort forwarding is set to the gateway address of the AT&T box.
There are many tutorials on YouTube depending on which equipment you have. It is great having Roon ARC away from home.
Hope this helps.
