ARC not working with tplink deco m9 to tplink ER605 to ONT

Description of Issue
Can’t use ARC either in home on same WiFi network to access Roon Nucleus, or out of home.
Roon works fine in home.
ARC used to work fine, since replacing BT SmartHub2 with tp-link ER605 router, ARC no longer works

It looks like your Wifi mesh (tp-link Deco M9 Plus) is configured to do routing because your roon server is configured to use 192.168.68.1 as its gateway (route to the internet) but I can also see a 192.168.0.101 address in the error text. Both these ip addresses are non-routable and so represent addresses in your local network. However, 192.168.x.y addresses are usually configured with a 255.255.255.0 netmask meaning that these two addresses are in different subnets.

I imagine that your tp-link Deco M9 Plus (or at least one of them if you have more than one of them) is configured to provide NAT routing and DHCP. They should all be configured to work in access point mode so that they do not provide routing or DHCP. Then the only device doing routing and provideing DHCP services will be the tp-link ER605 - which will issue all devices with an ip address in the same subnet.

You might find more detail in a thread on the same issue at:

A fellow Cambridgeshire Roon user using BT with a 3rd party router.

Hello Wade – Thanks for your prompt reply! All four of my tplink deco m9+ devices are in Wi-Fi Router (Default) mode, not Access Point mode. I had ARC working for quite a while with the same settings on deco, however all that has changed in my setup (to my knowledge) is the fact that I replaced the BT SmartHub2 with tplink ER605 router (no WiFi). I will try setting deco to Access Point mode later today and report back. Thanks for the additional thread share, was not aware of that particular one.

It was probable that, before you changed the BT router for the tp-link one, the Roon Server was connected (or associated in Wifi terms) with the BT router so that, although you had multiple subnets, your Roon server was in the subnet that could work.

Maybe, after changing the BT router, your roon server ended up connected (or associated with) one of the Deco devices instead - thus placing it in the subnet that cannot work with ARC (at least without further configuration).

I presume that, previously, your nucleus was connected directly to the BT router (which will work with ARC). Is it now connected to one of the Deco devices? If so, this is where the breaking change came about.

Fixed. ** THANK YOU Wade ** I have a feeling that during a power outage (the kind that goes off/on/off/on/off/on… that also resets your Alexa bulbs) that Deco was reset to W-Fi Router Default mode. I just chanaged them all to Access Point as you shared. Again… THANK YOU!!

Hi @Mitch_Goldberg,

@Wade_Oram is most helpful and a very appreciated contributor on this forum. You’re lucky to have crossed paths with Wade.

Oftentimes with autoconfiguration of port forwarding, things will change behind the scenes and cause a previously functioning ARC cellular connection to break. These changes can include router firmware downloads, power outages, updates to network firewalls or antivirus software, and even backend (sometimes unannounced) changes to your internet service provider’s implementation.

In any case, should you encounter a “Not Ready” error in Roon → Settings → ARC without having made the change yourself, please post the diagnostic again just as you did here. The Community, spanning nearly the entire globe, will often be there to assist before staff is online, and we’ll do our very best to reach you as soon as we can.
