Hi, all. Hoping someone can help. I just got a phone running the latest version of /e/OS (/e/OS - e Foundation - deGoogled unGoogled smartphone operating systems and online services - your data is your data). I was able to install Roon Remote on it, no problem. It found my Core immediately and is working better than it did on my old iPhone. Then I installed ARC. When I first launched it it asked me to allow it to find devices on the local network, and I allowed it. Then it just showed the logo forever. Quitting it and relaunching it, I just see the logo. Same if I power-cycle the phone.
Does anyone know if ARC can be used on /e/OS, or have any tips about troubleshooting it on Android in general? (I did find a thread where someone had the same problem on stock Android, and it was resolved by installing the download direct from Roon. I tried that, and same results. I just see the logo.)
I do not use this /e/OS, but based on my knowledge of Android and you can download Arc outside of the a google Play Store suggests it’ll install fine.
Arc working smoothly varies as there so many makes and models. The manufacturer may implement their own power management etc which has in the past caused some issue for me.
It is possible that I have identified the culprit. /e/OS blocked a Google tracker that ARC tried to use. I could manually permit the tracker, but given that the whole point of /e/OS is to block Google tracking that would be rather counter-productive. It is interesting that ARC is the only app I’ve installed that doesn’t function. Even NYT Games, for which /e/OS informs me it blocked 5 trackers and 61 leaks, works fine. Back to listening to CDs in the car for me.
Hi Jeff, up until approximately six months a go ARC installed and played very well on /e/OS, however following a /e/ OS production update something changed, and since then it has not been possible to add the ARC app past the first or second stage. I am fairly certain that the issue is with /e/ OS, but I guess we are a tiny subset of users, in an already small pool.
Thanks for the info, Glimmer! I’m brand new to /e/OS, and overall I’m loving it so far, but it does seem that finding real-world advice, especially for smaller use-cases, is challenging.
I just got a Fairphone (Gen. 6). It looks and feels like a perfectly “normal” phone. And mine’s forest green, so I do consider it a thing of beauty. Hopefully it will prove to be the workhorse it’s meant to be, too!
That’s great news! I’ve been checking for the update on my phone periodically since I saw the announcement, but it isn’t being pushed to me, yet. I will definitely try ARC again once I do get the update.
