ARC the most dreadful experience in Roon

After 1 year I gave it a try again. I spent 30’ to re configure the router (that in the meanwhile was updated), and this is the result.

Let’s try again in a year time…

Give Tailscale ago and see how you get on.

The integration with Tailscale has to be fair totally transformed arc. Not that I had major issues with it and frankly still have no use for it.

But Tailscale is the way forward

This error is most likely unrelated to the connection method (Tailscale or port forwarding). I’d suggest to the OP to try uninstalling/reinstalling ARC. (Note: any ARC downloads will be lost). Unfortunately, generic corruption like this that needs a reinstall still happens too often.

This is my equivalent of reboot. It’s a bore but it tends to fix issues.

Thanks, this resolved for now.

I’ve had the same issue with ARC. Uninstalling ARC and then reinstalling it solved the issue every single time. I have unlimited data so I don’t download music to my phone. Saves one issue I guess…

ARC is really driving me crazy: “There’s an issue with …”

I disconnect, I restart my iPhone, I connect and get asked, which profile I would like to use, and then “There’s an issue with …”

Any ideas?

Uninstall and reinstall ARC. (You will lose your ARC downloads)

Thanks!
It worked - but I would like to understand why.

What’s a ‘generic corruption’ and why is there no way to return to the fresh installation state from within ARC?

Did you restore a Roon database backup or changed your Roon Server to a new installation after you installed the ARC app?

That’s exactly what I referred to as the most dreadful experience: 95% tinkering, 5% listening.

I had a similar experience for the first week or two. Since then, it has been 100% listening, 0% tinkering.

Your patience should soon be rewarded with a great new resource.

Was like this a few years ago. Numbers now switched places. Very much on the ok’ish side.

I stopped using Roon ARC. I cannot recall a worse experience. I stops mid song. To get it going again - it needs to be force-stopped on android settings and restarted, imagine doing this while driving. It was just not worth it.

My ARC experience has been flawless….up until about 2 months ago. Completely unuseable now

Same here, I don‘t waste my lifetime with ARC anymore. As much I love Roon, as much I dislike ARC. But that’s just my personal opinion and experience. I am using Plexamp and it never fails or delete my downloads. To be honest they should keep the focus at Roon and fix the issues of the last updates, instead of ARC.

No, none of the both. But there have been a lot of system software updates on iOS. Who knows?

iOS updates shouldn’t be a problem. It’s just that there is a known behavior if one restores a Roon backup on the server or switches to an entirely new server: In both cases, ARC must be reinstalled and it will then be like a new ARC instance connecting to a new server. (Roon Labs is aware of this and they are working on an improvement at least for the backup restore scenario)

Therefore, if you had restored a backup, then errors like “There’s an issue with …” would currently be expected until you reinstall ARC.

I had many of the same issue with ARC early on and the uninstall/reinstall worked well. I don’t seem to need that solution anymore and it works most of the time. The time it most fails on me now is when I walk or drive away from the house and a couple tracks in it will die and not want to work again. I will switch to my Qobuz app for an album or so and revisit the ARC app. It is usually fine by then. A small hiccup but not the end of the world. It seriously has an issue with showing me a discography though. I had a support ticket open for that but it went nowhere and closed due to inactivity. Lame.

But for me, ARC is 80% of my Roon use and I wouldn’t want to be without it. I love it!
