Boy, have I been out of the loop for too long!!! I knew INTEL d/c’d continued production of the NUC family, even though they may still be available for purchase. However, I had no idea that ASUS appears to have acquired the rights to produce and market “NUC”-named units – is this correct?! Does ROCK even support any of the ASUS NUCs? They seem pretty advanced at first look.
Asus have acquired rights to the designs and are producing NUCs. However the agreement is non-exclusive so other companies may also be able to come to an agreement with Intel.
The Roon Labs list of officially-supported NUC devices only has Intel products currently. It’s probable that Asus models will be added over time, but Roon Labs never pre-announce things like this.
It’s also highly probable that ROCK will work on the NUC 12 and NUC 13 range of Asus NUCs, but unless they appear on the Roon Labs list, they will not be officially supported.
I have modified a couple of Intel Celeron NUCs in the past to be fully “supported” by/compatible with Roon ROCK installation and updates. I use them as streamers and not as my core ROCK NUC. The only thing that was required seemed to be switching out the wireless card to one that was compatible with supported NUCs. This seemed to be one of the most common limiting factors of official ROCK support toward individual NUCs at that time. So, I imagine, you may be right that some of the ASUS NUCs, while not officially supported presently, may work just fine.
I would imagine the new Nucleus Titan is based on ASUS models. Like they did with Intel I would assume they got some deal on the boards.
