ASUSTOR Flashstor 6 Review: A Silent, Fast, and Versatile Roon Core Server

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my review from AFdigitale (an Italian Hi-Fi and digital technology magazine), where I have tested the ASUSTOR Flashstor 6 and found it to be an outstanding solution for a Roon Core.

I discovered that this NVMe-based NAS is more than just a place to store your music; it’s a true digital “Swiss Army knife” that can serve as both a Roon Core and a high-quality direct streamer.

In my article, I explored several aspects that I believe are of great interest to Roon users expecially: Digital Output Quality: We tested both the optical (TOSLINK) and USB outputs, finding them to provide stable, error-free playback at high resolutions (up to 32-bit/384 kHz PCM and DSD256). The optical output, in particular, offers a clean, galvanically isolated signal.

I hope this review is helpful for those considering a similar setup. You can read the full article here (the article is in Italian, but modern browsers offer excellent translation):

Hope you enjoy.
Thanks,
Giuseppe
