Availability of NUC

It is getting more and more difficult to get hold of NUC and at the same time there are no update here:

I find that very disappointing :frowning:

Have you checked Amazon? I got mine in January.

NUC 13 is not on the list. NUC 12 don’t support HDMI …

Torben, NUC 13 works fine, though there’s no HDMI audio yet. I’m sure it’ll get added in time.

Intel NUC Mini PC | Intel Core i7-1260P | 32 GB DDR4 | 1 TB SSD - NVMe | Windows 11 Pro | bol I’ve bought this one as my new daily usage machine. Not for running my Roon Server, but for everything else it is a real gem.

Speaking of which, what ever happened to ROCK 2.0? Was it ever released?

Roon OS 2.0. No, it’s still 1.0.

In Feb 2021 Danny had mentioned plans to release Roon OS 2.0 in later that year. Also, it’s been quite some time since Roon (Danny?) mentioned they would announce updates to the list of supported computers to run ROCK.

The lack of progress or announcements on either front makes me wonder if ROCK will eventually be left to die on the vine. Perhaps Harman has other plans to sell hardware rather than continuing with ROCK/NUC options?

True

Nucleus runs Roon OS, too, and there was no Roon OS 2.0, either. So I don’t think you can isolate this to ROCK.

I don’t know, but my opinion is that Roon only is feasible long-term with a few hundred K subscribers, and they can only have a few hundred K subscribers if it runs on a variety of hardware. I don’t see a business for Roon (as we know it) on just the Harman brands or whatever.

If they bought it just for technology like RAAT, I don’t see why there would have been so many releases with significant resource investment in stuff like playlists or folder browsing since the takeover.

Not going to happen, they’ve just announced the Nucleus One and Titan. Both will be running Rock with Nucleus branding (and perhaps other small tweaks). But I agree, Rock OS 2 seems long over due.

True.

I should have more clearly stated, I’m wondering if the DIY option of ROCK/NUC (or other supported computer line) will continue to be offered down the road. If so, it seems odd there has been no apparent progress updating the supported computer list for so long, to the point where people like the OP of this thread are having trouble finding a supported computer.

It wouldn’t surprise me if down the road ROCK/ROON OS is only offered on Roon (like Nucleus) devices and new DIY users will have to use Windows, Mac, or Linux (with current NUC/ROCK users continuing to receive support).

Of course this is pure speculation on my part given the circumstances since Roon isn’t saying.

I would have assumed that the launch of the new Nucleus lines would have been a golden opportunity to debut Roon OS 2.0.

Yes :frowning: And that is long time ago. I think Roon is great - even with the bugs - but their customer information is very disappointing.

Who knows if the other parties are ready

Almost 12 months ago, and still not ready :frowning: And NO sign of proactive information about this topic to Roon’s customers.

Well, I don’t know if it’s the case here, but it certainly happens in business relationships.

I agree that they could say something (and if only very basic) in the ROCK docs.

There is a 10i7 for sale in the forum section

I know ROCK is a simple solution to get started with Roon and have a server available 24/7, but it can be a wasteful use of hardware IMO.
It’s worth considering getting someone to set up a simple Linux server, allowing you to run Plex and LMS and so much more, providing redundancy or complimenting Roon in your home.
Then you don’t have to worry about the small computer being on the ROCK compatibility list.
