Playing to a Naim NDX-2 via AirPlay 2 (which the Naim supports) in one zone seemed to work flawlessly. (Though I hadn’t had the odd AirPlay issue that causes a lot of complaints in production with the NDX-2, either - I tested it prior to updating to 1410). AirPlay 2 confirmation:
Playing to my Apple TV individually also worked flawlessly.
I enabled the Apple TV output, switched to it, it asked me for the AirPlay password that was shown on the screen, and it simply worked after entering.
Minor nit: After entering, the AirPlay password was left showing on the TV. Easily solved by switching to the Home screen with the ATV remote, but don’t know if this is expected.
Grouping the Apple TV and the Naim was a bit weird - working, but possibly with some glitches (though I am not sure if caused by Roon/AirPlay or the NDX-2):
I played to the ATV zone and enabled grouping from there:
However, after grouping the sound only came through the TV speakers (through the ATV zone).
Note: The NDX-2 doesn’t have a manual dedicated AirPlay input setting or indicator, it switches automatically to AirPlay if it receives a stream. Maybe this didn’t get enabled somehow.
I removed the group and first played to the NDX-2 AirPlay zone, then grouping from there with the ATV.
This didn’t work, I didn’t get output through either zone. The play bar moved but no sound.
I ungrouped and then I didn’t get any sound from the NDX-2 alone by AirPlay, either. I transferred the Music to the NDX-2 RAAT zone, sound was OK. Transferred back to the NDX-2 AirPlay, no sound.
I waited a bit and played around, not sure what I actually did but switched NDX-2 inputs (thinking I could make the AirPlay trigger work, maybe - the NDX-2 has some known weird behaviors regarding its automatic input switching, so I wasn’t sure everything was OK in this regard).
Then I tried again with grouping and now it worked fine, getting sound from both the TV and the NDX-2, regardless of what the primary zone was where I started the grouping. All OK.
Marantz model 40n and Wiim pro worked fine although volume on Marantz is reported back to Roon incorrectly. Roon showed 25 amp was at 22. Also worked as a group from Roon.
Hi @Simon_Arnold3,
Yep, I just wasn’t sure. After posting I checked out the specs to confirm SkyQ only supports Airplay.
It’s the only Airplay device I can stream to, but the the good news is no issues (so far).
An old (but still very much in use by me) Denon DN-500AV Processor which was working fine with AirPlay 1 until recently has now stopped working.
Build 1410 on both server (ROCK) & client (iOS).
I can still AirPlay to it direct from my phone, but although:
Roon appears to be connected
The signal path looks as expected
The little ‘spectrum analyser’ icon for that device, under the zones menu, is moving as if music is playing.
The play and pause buttons work, but the playback position bar doesn’t move, it just stays at 0 (or wherever I drag the play head to).
I don’t get any audio
I’m not sure if this is relevant or useful, but the processor used to appear as Denon:[DN-500AV]. But since the update it has (Denon,1) appended to the end of that string.
(have tried re-re-enabling the zone in Roon, loaded the defaults, restarted the processor, ensured nothing else is connected to it via AirPlay etc. but still no luck - was working without issue until recently)
Playing to some Homepod Minis worked fine. I grouped two of them in the Apple Home app, that worked, too.
Playing to my Cambridge Audio Evo150 was flawless, even cover art was shown
However, when trying to play to an Apple TV 4K, a code was shown on TV but not accepted by roon. I will try again later today, it’s probably a setting on my side.
I’m experiencing a problem with the new AirPlay functionality, I believe. My server had been solid as a rock until this new EA build, but now it seems stuck on a reboot / crash loop, with the common factor seeming to be ID’ing AP-capable devices like my AppleTVs.
Excerpt from the last line of the server log before it crashed - this is usually the last line in the log over dozens of repeated crashes:
05/09 09:59:54 Info: [devicedb] [autodetect] Match DeviceAutodetectData[Type=AirPlay Model=AudioAccessory5,1|AppleTV|AudioAccessory5,1|AppleTV DescriptiveName=Guest Bedroom (2)] => Apple Apple TV / HomePod mini
UPDATE: I unplugged the system referenced (i.e., the HomePod mini stereo set paired with my guest bedroom AppleTV) and Roon is now stable again, running like a top. So it’s DEFINITELY related to the new AP code, maybe only with this particular type of device / pairing?
I just want to confirm something so I can try to reproduce this, you have two HomePod mini speakers which are set as a stereo pair, and then that stereo pair is set as the output for an Apple TV. Is that correct?
I seem to have the same problem. I also have a HomePod Mini Stereo Pair set as the standard output of an Apple TV. Removing it as the Apple TV standard output fixed the Roon Server issue. Roon identifies it as a stereo pair now and plays to it, but sound is coming only from one of the HomePods.
I have a pair of original HomePods configured as a stereo pair. I am unable to get them to work in Roon as a stereo pair.
They show up as three individual “AudioAccessory1,1” entries in the Audio setup section. All three are marked as “Airplay2” but none of them play as a stereo pair when added to Roon. Based on the ip addresses, one HomePod shows up twice and the other one only once.
I wonder whether they are supposed to work or not? I guess since Apple has kind of abandoned them it doesn’t look good for Roon support.
Another issue: I have a HomePod stereo pair set up in my home office.
No combination of turning on PIN and entering PIN (correctly) in Roon allowed playback. Just said it was the wrong PIN, though it clearly was correct as configured in the Home app.
Turning OFF PIN allowed playback to start after a few seconds, but only on one speaker in the pair. After a few seconds, playback stops completely.
