B1430 AirPlay 2 feedback

Just to say that for me things work the same as with the previous build:

  • Apple TV works
  • Naim NDX-2 by AirPlay works
  • Grouping of the two works but it doesn’t play 100% in sync, slight delay in one of them
  • Handover works between the two, handover from ATV to NDX-2 by RAAT works, the only thing that doesn’t work is handover from NDX-2 RAAT to NDX-2 AirPlay (the progress bar keeps advancing but no sound)

generally same results as prior build

minor change on mac mini - pauses about 5 seconds after initially starting playback … after resuming, playback continues without further pauses

apple tv - works
ropieee with shairport-sync in airplay1 mode - works
Pi device with shairport-sync in airplay2 mode - works
wiim pro plus - playback works, but out of sync when grouped with other airplay devices

compatibility mode … breaks playback when enabled on devices above … playback tries to start but never advances past 0:00

I don’t have the compatibility mode option on the iPad - not surprising as there is no update for it, but maybe there should be?

So a few comments and issues remain:

  1. :white_check_mark: Edited, original LSX using AirPlay now work once LSX;s were added to Apple Home

Blockquote
Original version KEF LSX: AirPlay does not work in either Compatibility mode Yes or No. Also, while nothing plays, the Play button does not change to a Pause buttong, and the track progress bar does not move, I happened to see the LSX AirPlay zone showing an active play icon in my Zones list, screenshotted below:

  1. :white_check_mark: Samsung TV with built-in native AirPlay2 continues to work

  2. :white_check_mark: All AppleTV 4Ks work

  3. :white_check_mark: Paired (by Apple) HomePod minis work correctly in stereo

  4. :white_check_mark: For testing compatibility with an early-first generation AirPlay 1 device, I have an 11-year-old Klipsch G17 that works fine with Roon and AirPlay

  5. :white_check_mark: AirPort Express (first generation) also works correctly with Roon

Homepods work well. Marantz airplay works well (though I use RHEOS normally) and so is apple TV.

I think its finally ready for primetime  well done team Roon.

Naim MuSo Gen 1 still airplay fails to play with or without airplay password and with/without compatibility mode.

Can anyone with one of these devices get it to work?

Update 18:52 GMT:-

Moved the device to a hardwired connection and did a factory reset:-

Seems to be working in compatabilty mode

All Sonos devices seem to be working perfectly, in sync when grouped, transferring, etc.

So I was on Roon earlier today, and for some AirPlay devices, the devices need to be added to Apple Home. The Roon Help article is here:

Once I added my original LSX to Apple Home, AirPlay works correctly now. I believe 1430 should be deployed into the Production Build.

Took the plunge and…it’s back to broken for me in this build on my Airplay 1 devices…however, I can’t see the compatibility mode option on device setup on my UI (Android, B1418 which is the most recent downloaded EA build)?

Did you ever find it? I’m a bit puzzled as to why some people seem to see it and others don’t and, for that matter, why there’s no client update associated with it?

Nope I didn’t, on the iPad. Are we sure others have it? I doubt that if it’s not in the code. I do have it in the macOS app

compatibility mode option is there in mac and windows desktop apps, not there in mobile/iOS remote app

Ah, thanks. Each time I think this Airplay release couldn’t get any more confusing, somehow it always manages to do so!

Are you sure you’re running Early Access on both Server and mobile device? You should be seeing it on mobile as well.

Edit: actually, it looks like we haven’t deployed the mobile build – that’s why you’re not seeing it.

Exactly. No biggie if there are no other changes, but don’t forget when you deploy to production
