I find it quite irritating that Roon not can identify members of a group/artists recording.
Latest example is this recording:
Not very informative.
Excellent album though, IMO.

Not much known about Linford. No Wikipedia page, Discogs has one sentence (“works with Trevor Rabin”) and a very small photo, IMDB has nothing except the film discography. Difficult to do more for Roon. If you have a suitable photo you can upload it to Roon.
Roon should have a method to scan the www and collect the information we need. That’s what we’re paying for. Here’s some info on the actual recording.
When the answers is on the www, it should be included in Roon. What’s the meaning if it’s not? If Roon want’s to be the world leading music streaming provider, come on… Get serious and give us what we want.
Oh, that’s what you meant, I thought you meant the missing Linford info
Easier said than done with unstructured data
That’s not a good enough answer.
Well I don’t owe one. Just stating realities.
No you’re paying to use metadata services that require licensing which are AllMusic, MusicBrainz and more recently Wikipedia the former two are biggest online databases of music. Wikipedia was added to fill in some of the gaps. Metadata is not always easy to find and be able to use legitimately . Roon never has or even said it trawls the internet and likey never will as it’s unreliable and has no define structure to do so which is needed. No paid app does as it’s a minefield of copyright infringement and open for a class lawsuit.
That’s a very broad We. I think its, I.
Would you want all 375,000 results added to Roon, or just some of them? If it’s the latter, then how would they be selected?
Here’s another example, from a better known album …
Given the colossal amount of data on the internet I can’t think of any feasible way this data could be incorporated into Roon without a massive amount of curatorial effort.
