Basic Roon / C4?

I have a Control 4 set up for my HT and it works fine. My server is installed on an old late 2013 iMac and it also works fine.

Does Roon & C4 only work with the Nucleus ? I plan on doing some C4 system upgrades and am wondering if there’s a way to control volume, etc via C4 with my iMac as the server.
