SMSL D200 at DSD512, “narrow” filter selected (makes very important difference so if your ROHM DAC doesn’t have this option, time to upgrade
, ) using ASDM5EC-fast + ext2-xl filter. All measurements with Cosmos ADC + Comsmos Scaler for good impedance matching.
I didn’t know until today it has built-in linear PSU!
Under 100kHz, Audalytic AH90 still has lower noise and distortion at DSD256 than D200 at both DSD256 & DSD512. And AH90 has built-in NAA and 12Vdc input so you can use any external PSU you want.
But for the price if you really want excellent >100 kHz performance at DSD512, this is hard to beat… the only DACs beating it (excluding Jussi’s proper DSC1 with active analogue stage) are wayyyyy more expensive. Definitely beats all iFi DACs under 100kHz and still has >18bits wideband analogue reconstruction, thanks to that narrow DSD filter option…
@jussi_laako this seems a good candidate for DAC corrections !
The performance penalty going from DSD256 to DSD512 are negligible to me, better than Cyan2 in numerous measurements at DSD512 (I didn’t measure Cyan2 DSD1024 with new DSD1024 modulator since it didn’t exist when I measured Cyan2)
Wth multitone, there 3 spikes that are fixed in level, so if you ignore those, it is better than 120dB of clean range at DSD512. Good enough ! I think those fixed level noise spikes are linear PSU related. Very minor though, very low in level.
TIM:
IMD vs level does have an IMD hump, much lower in level than Cyan2 though. AH90 doesn’t have any significant hump and has lowest IMD levels:
-3dB point at around 60kHz:
Better than 18bits analogue reconstruction in wideband:
