Best native DSD DACs for use with HQPlayer?

Native DSD under Linux for Holo Audio DACs is widely supported:
Ropieee, SOtM, RedOS,…
IMHO the specs are here very “defensive” to avoid some expectations…

I had one of those in high school too!

Hello, Roonlabs sent us a survey to fill that will help them to define, in part, their futur development plans.
It’s time for us, HQPlayer user, to say we are important and to enforce our willing of a better HQPlayer integration in Roon.
HQPlayer is even not mentioned in the list of preferred emderer for Roon, we must choose “Other”. Fortunately we can describe it at the next question.
I answered that I would like some improvements to ensure a better understanding of what happens when Roon does not start a track because something goes wrong with either the connection to HQPlayer or the connection from HQP and NAA.
But maybe @jussi_laako could give us some good ideas to suggest in the survey.
I think of more details of HQP settings, like “is Convolution activated?” and which config (when you are using Room correction) etc…. It would implies may be a richer API for the communication between Roon and HQP or the endpoint in general….
May be off topic, sorry.

Damn, I mist that point in the survey. :open_mouth:

and you are right, this is OT here.

If you have used HQPlayer Client or HQPDcontrol, you have some rough idea what the current control API allows. Roon is using only tiny subset of that… Of course sensible further functionality could be added.

And they could also optimize things further by using for example the PlayNextURI method instead of current Stop - modify playlist - Play cycle… Although now you can set the idle time, which turns this Stop-Play cycle into “fake” one.

Jussi, please participate in the survey.

I went through it, but I didn’t see anything HQPlayer related there. Had to enter manually that I use HQPlayer as player since it wasn’t on the list… Could be that Roon wants to forget about this feature now.

OMG, let’s hope not!
I will redo the survey!

I did the survey and asked for a deeper HQP integration in future. For example, it’d be great if you could change the HQP settings from Roon UI.

Yes Jussi, it was my point, HQPlayer is not mentionned, so it is important that all the HQPlayer users community talk about it (at least) in the survey.
Would be a very bad thing indeed if Roon plan to remove this feature !

如果roon 不再支持hqplayer ,我会转用jplay ios,通过upnp 使用hqplayer 。

I asked that HQPlayer source be switchable from Roon UI.

New Cyan 2 owner and very happy with the sound performance so far. Great details.
Quick question though. I do have a slight crackle between songs when resolution from one audio file to the next changes. When there is no change in resolution, there is no crackle.
That is an „issue“ of the Cyan 2 and not something that could be avoided with a specific setting in HQP, right?

Are you using native DSD transfer or DoP? I don’t remember hearing any noises from Holo Audio DACs. But I have not done much listening on Cyan 2 yet…

Native I guess.

Ahh yes. But the output is some SMSL thing instead of Cyan 2?

Hm, strange, I was listening via Cyan 2 when I took the screen shot???
Need to change tomorrow again.
Should I use DOP or native?

Native certainly. With some DACs, DoP can cause clicks or pops, because the detection is not necessarily in sync with the DAC format change / start.

Absolutely not something i heard - whether DoP or native DSD

Hmm the mystery deepens

Thanks man, you gave me a sleepless night.
In the morning I thought I had found the reason.
I had in Roon resync delay in the audio settings for HPQ set to 0. I changed it to 500ms and 1000ms but still same behaviour. Crackle in between songs when resolution change, no change in resolution, no crackle.

Here are all the settings used:
