Best portable high-res music player for Roon with good WLAN and Bluetooth 5.X

Glad to have been of at least some help

I would add my voice to the others and eventually get Roon or Fiio to change this.

This is what puts me off purchasing such DAP.

Then one would have the same problems with Astell & Kern :frowning:

Me too :frowning:

No, with all certified A&Ks you’ll get as Roon endpoint bitident output until DSD128.

If they actually mange to play without loosing connection. Their WiFi is shonky at best and I found it lost Roon constantly and I have a very good WiFi setup yet it refused to play ball where every other device is rock solid.

The said thing is, that AK is the only DAP that is “Roon Ready”. What model was ist?

Most of latest models , check Roons partners site, they are not cheap
though, Roon Ready starts with Kann Alpha. The more expensive ones have dual band but it’s still bad according to a lot of users. The cheaper ones are 2 4ghz only and I found the Kann Alpha to be very temperamental.

Aren’t they based on Android? Does having them Roon Ready get around the Android resampling?

Why not just get a Hugo2 / 2Go pairing?

Apps can bypass the Android resampling, but Roon seems like it has done no work on this.
Possibly the market seems to small or Roon has too much on elsewhere.

It hasn’t as far as I know. Actually, over the years a bit of back peddling. It used to be that Roon would send the actual file resolution to the Android device. Then somewhere around 1.3/1.4 that set that to 24/48 for everything. I do find that annoying for 16/44.1 content because I am not a fan of cross rate upsampling.

I would prefer if it didn’t but I will have to say that it has not annoyed me like it does some people.
It’s more annoying when you have a nice Dongle DAC and it doesn’t get used properly.

Right now Roon and Plex resample everything, but Tidal bypasses it so if I am using one of the Dongle DACs with a nice set of headphones I will generally use Tidal.

That is why I use UAPP and have a ton of local music storage, 750 gb. No need to stream ever.

Yes it seems to but then it’s different code to implement Roon ready isn’t it. Also it took them along time. It does have some caveats with regards to sync play.

Have built a portable (Not Pocketable) roon end point. Using Pi 4 feeding Hiby FC6 DAC powered by a powerbank. Works like a charm. Looks wierd though.
