Hi guys,
Recently my NUC8i5BEK stopped working, I could not figure out how and I guessed it was the mainboard or the m.2 ssd was faulty.
I decided to replace with another NUC8iBEK on marketplace, I put it in the Akasa Touring and use the same WD Blue SSD for music storage.
Everything has been working fine, however because the Backup file is in the OS ssd, I lost everything including played time, counts, local playlists (especially playlist which I spent a lot of time building it). My library is now fresh like a first time Roon user…
In the past everytime I change my Roon server (SonicTransporter, Nucleus, NUC…) I had to rebuild my playlists because the backups sometime works and sometime didn’t…
So I would like to ask if there is a safer way to store Roon Database in case both the internal SSDs stop working? I only have a free Dropbox account which is not enough. Can I use a 32gb USB stick to plug it in the NUC all the time and backups go there?
Thanks for reading and look forward to some suggestions.

Thanks Jim, I have a spare 256gb usb stick, will it work if I plug it in the NUC and leave it there all the time? I have about 1000 albums, would it be enough space for multiple backups like you suggest?
I agree with Jim , avoid USB sticks , they can be unreliable . Don’t skimp on BU , maybe buy a dedicated 1 Tb USB drive
I have a 5tb USB drive attached to my NUC for additional content over the internal SSD , I backup to that then sync with a folder on my main PC for belt and braces
I back up daily keep 20 I don’t add an awful lotto my library these days .With a big library the whole back up folder is around 100 Gb. So for a thousand albums then maybe 20GB

I don’t quite understand this? You should NEVER use either of the internal drives (the m.2 SSD or an internal drive used for music storage) of a ROCK/NUC system to hold Roon backups.
As has been said, use a USB drive (not a USB stick) or a local network location (or both for a belt and braces approach).

Thanks Mike, appreciate your input
Thanks Geoff, yeah it was my mistake not to select the correct source for Backups. I will have to invest in a hdd drive then.
