BETA Release 2024.11

Hi,

I’ve just pushed out a first beta for the upcoming 2024.11 release.

This release has the following stuff:

  • IMPROVEMENT: change Usbridge kernel to 64 bit
  • IMPROVEMENT: support reverse proxying RoPieee’s webpage
  • IMPROVEMENT: update Linux kernel
  • IMPROVEMENT: update Librespot component (Spotify)
  • IMPROVEMENT: [display] continue on ‘Connection Failure’ screen

Go out and test!

Would be great if we got someone with an Usbridge testing stuff (although I’m doing that one myself) and a Zero (as that one fell through the cracks the last time).

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Hi Harry,
I have a long disused USBridge which I will update with the latest stable release and then switch to beta channel. The current FW is so old it doesn’t seem to be working. Fingers crossed.

I’ve noticed in the 2024.10 stable release that after a configuration change and reboot the USbridge never recovers (no error led indication) and I have to do a hard reboot.

Should be on beta channel shortly.

This seems odd

Device manager on another endpoint indicates I am running beta, while the unit itself reports stable.

Now waiting for the update.

Kevin

Hi,
Unfortunately the update didn´t go well…
It is unreachable at the moment, the red LED of my Allo Usbridge Sig blinks short-short and long red and then a bit longer short red. And that over and over again. Even a “ping” to the IP adress doesn´t give any result.
I also tried a restart (hoping that the update went well, but only the restart failed).

I think I will take out the SD card and rewrite the thing on a laptop.

Unless someone has another suggestion.
Regards,
Annejan

No, that doesn’t sound good. You need to reflash indeed…

Could the SD Card be broken?

I reflashed the card on a Linux laptop. Maybe I should have erased the card before rewriting the image to the disk…

No that’s not necessary. I’m wondering if there’s a fatal bug in the update for the Usbridge…

You can use this image to reflash: https://image.ropieee.io/ropieeexl_ose_usbridge-2024.11.0-beta.20241115.1896.bin

I will try flashing my flash with the beta and see if it works. (No download notification after 5 hours.)

Success!

I am going to go install it in my headphone system and give it a listen. (Amanero and Geshelli Labs J2S AK4499 dac)

50/50 on upgrades to to 2024.11
Usbridge Sig updated fine.
RPi 4 has been stuck at ‘Wrapping up installation…’ for about an hour.

Report back on USBridge, there is a periodic crack noise all on program material about every 10 - 15 seconds. So I will be reinstalling the RPI4B that normally serves as endpoint for my headphone system.

Just pull the cable

Still no succes.I will try with another SD card tomorrow. I thought it should show something on the web-interface pretty soon (at least that’s what I’ m remembering from the first time I installed RopieeeXL).
It only says the website can´t be reached. On the modem/router no other (unknown) device has shown up.
Ah well, tomorrow there’s another day…

upgrade successful and so far working well here

Ah well, after a good nights sleep and an other SD card, the Allo USBridge Sig seems to be working again!

Starting to test audio now. (On the previous Beta Spotify Connect dropped out after 15 to 20 minutes, not whether it had something to do with Spotify or Ropieee).

Thanks for the extra effort Harry!

Hi Harry,

One of my two units upgraded to the beta is running much hotter than normal despite being idle. Other than that it seems fine and is not cooking itself, just hotter than I’d like… I’ll continue to monitor, just figured I’d mention it.
