BETA Release 2025.01

Hi,

The last beta release took quite some time, and I liked that.
So here’s an early beta release: 2025.01

Stuff all over the place:

  • NEW: survive hostname change from webpage
  • NEW: install update from display
  • NEW: [display] implement Roon’s hard volume limits
  • IMPROVEMENT: update Linux kernel
  • IMPROVEMENT: update Plexamp component
  • IMPROVEMENT: update Shairport-Sync component (Airplay)
  • ENHANCEMENT: update Squeezelite (LMS) component
  • IMPROVEMENT: automagically switch to HTPDATE if NTPDATE keeps failing
  • IMPROVEMENT: webpage has it’s own ‘donate’ page
  • FIX: [display] volume slider initial position is not correct

Go test and let me know how things are going.

I also like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your testing work this past year. The beta releases has helped a lot in fleshing out bugs, so I’m very grateful for that.

I wish you all a happy new year!

Regards, Harry

Hi Harry,
:+1:
Updated my 5 RPIs. All went well.
I can assure you that the volume limits of Roon are now implemented correctly on the display. Big thanks for this implementation.
Kind regards and I wish you a fine yearend and a healty 2025.

Hey Harry, I’ve updated two units successfully, but this new feature doesn’t seem to work at all on either of them. Is the issue that I’m using soft limits not hard?

Probably, as I only implemented the hard limits.

Ah ok. Is likely that then. What would be awesome (no idea if its easy) is if the slider used only the soft limit but the plus/minus buttons extended beyond (up to the hard limit). That would stop my inept finger sliding maxing out volume :grinning:

Harry @spockfish one of my pis is not getting updates on the bets channel

hope you can see some reason otherwise I guess I need to blow another image into it

Happy new year too

Happy New Year!

I’ve pushed out another beta build that contains 2 changes:

  • next to support for hard limits, soft limit is also working now
  • changed the volume control on Spotify for HW volume from lineair to log (the default)

Let me know how it goes.

@spockfish Do you check compatibility wifi wpa2/wpa3 selection ? If not, Today I have a lot of time so I can make some test.

Regards and Happy New Year!

I see the reason: not enough room (anymore) to download the update image.
What I don’t get what takes all the space…

@spockfish
:+1:New Beta downloaded. The support of hard and soft limit is working great.
Thank you very much for this, and a happy and healty new year, Frank.

It’s only an 8gb card so maybe I’ll bump it 16 anyway. It’s only used as a display at this time so nothing critical

Just updated my three units, no issues.

BTW, and FYI, Two of them use 8 gig cards, one is a RPi4 and one is RPi3, if that helps/affects your decision to increase your card size… @wizardofoz might just need to clean yor cards? i.e. wipe all the partitions and start fresh…??

Hi guys,

I’ve got @Kevin_Cossaboon reporting that Plex isn’t working with the latest stable and beta.
I can see that in his logs, but on my unit it works.

Can someone else check if Plex is working?

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the librespot log volume experiment, but now if I go to 50% it is already almost silent. With linear 50% was still very loud. I think cubic would be the most convenient setting, which is between log and linear. Thanks Andreas

Working perfectly well here Harry after the update to the latest beta
