I currently use a Roon Nucleus with my Sonos system and am very happy with it. I have ripped a large number of CDs which are connected via a USB external drive and, along with Tidal selections, am nearing the Nucleus 100k tracks limit. I still have a large number of CDs to rip and am considering the Bluesound Vault 2i as an additional option, as it is a CD ripper as well as a streamer. My question is: would I be able to connect the Bluesound to my Nucleus (presumably via the second USB point) and thereby play via my Sonos system (doesn’t look as though connecting the Bluesound direct to Sonos is straightforward). And would the extra number of tracks available to me via the Bluesound be additional to the existing Nucleus/USB external hard drive capacity I already have?
Hope that all makes sense. I’m not exactly a tech wizard so any help would be appreciated.
No you can’t do that.
The 100k is a soft limit, it depends on lots of circumstances.
If it works as it always has then just ignore the limit. If it starts to slow down then you need a different core entirely, a nucleus + as an example.
Thank you. I was afraid that was the case but wanted to be sure.
I have the Nucleus+, a Sonos system
Throughout the house, and also a Bluesound Vault2i, which I love. It all works seamlessly. I just have the vault connected by ethernet to the same Wi-Fi net work as the Nucleus+. Right now it’s physically located next to the Nucleus+ (no physical connection between the two devices) and just serving up stored tracks to the Nucleus+ . I am considering moving the Vault 2i to another area of the house, connecting it to an amplifier & passive speakers via an external dac. The downside of this, of course, is device clutter, which we currently don’t have with the nicely hidden Sonos speakers.
Thanks for your reply, Joseph. Currently I have a Bluesound Node in my main listening room and Sonos everywhere else. Very pleased with the Node, which is rock solid. I’ve decided to continue ripping my CDs using DbPoweramp and managing which ones I add to the HD connected to my Nucleus.
