Build 1448 Old tablet not seeing update

My phone on android 10 has successfully updated to 1448, but my antiquated Samsung tab s2 on android 7 is not seeing the update on playstore. I’ve done the usual rebooting, re-installed play store, and checked that I’m on the beta programme but to no avail. After deleting and reinstalling I’m now on 1442 production (it was 1444).

Is there an android version requirement?

No problems before.

Im surprised that you even have 1442 because according to this page it’s Android 8+

But if you got 1442 then I don’t see why you wouldn’t get 1448.

@BrianW I think the issue may be that your tablet change to production train. You might check the app and see if you need to re-join the beta train?

@Suedkiez My ancient Pixel C tablet (android 8.1) is on 1444 while the rest of my endpoints and the server are on 1448. All are early access. Maybe it’s just taking a while for them to roll our 1448 to android?

I don’t know, but it seems expected that a Pixel with 8.1 works if the specs state that 8+is required for Android remotes. I’m just surprised that it installs at all on Android 7

No, that’s ok.

I had 1444 before. I would have expected some notification if there is now a hard cur-off.

The Android 8+ requirement has been in the specs for ages

I always took it as a recommendation. And as I said, no problems up to now.

Don’t really want a new tablet - this one is fine for what I use it for.

Then the specs are wrong, I’m just pointing out the contradiction. The heading in the specs say requirements not recommended

Hmm, so why hasn’t @bearFNF 's 8.1 pixel updated?

I think it may be that we need to download the APK and install it ourselves? I may have done this on my tablet? but I don’t remember, sucks getting old…
we can get it here:

Ahh, thought I’d tried that, but see now I’d used a different link.

Will try that one…

… No dice

Oh well, c’est la vie.

There was a change here that we missed in the release notes, although the Help Center did get updated.

As part of ongoing improvements to our Android apps, our new minimum OS version is actually Android 9.

This change effects a tiny sliver of Android devices running Roon, but we know it’s still frustrating when older devices are no longer supported, so apologies for the confusion and for missing this in the release notes.

I will update the notes shortly, thanks folks!

Maybe I’m being slow, but just to avoid future confusion

I see this on the help center, so I understand this will be 9+ in the future (maybe the help page will get updated when this update goes to production?):

Will my old tablet, on 1442, continue to work, or at some point stop working altogether? I assume the latter. Timescales?

If this EA update requires Android 9, then I suppose this problem will hit production when the respective 1448 update (or higher) does

Yes, though at the moment I can successfully still control Roon, albeit without the latest additions. (My server updated ok).

I assume that will not be acceptable to Roon and so some cut-off will occur in due course.
