An issue I frequently encounter, especially when listening to generated playlists such as tidal my mixes, is that both the add to library and add to tag buttons appear grayed out. This is usually when I already have the song in my collection, and it prevents me from adding it to a tag.
Hi @Daniel_Rice,
Thank you for your patience while we worked through the queue. We would like to try to reproduce this issue on our machines. Please tell us what steps you went through to reach this state.
I would also note two things that are related to this.
You can’t add something to your library that already exists in your library. You are viewing a non-library object that also exists as an object in their library.
You can’t add a tag to a non-library object. Since this is the non-library object version of the track, you can’t tag it. It only exists in Tidal, not your library.
This issue comes up for me all the time when I listen to Tidal my mixes. They are full of songs I already have in my library (also tidal versions), but for some reason Roon always thinks they are a different version and hence can’t be added, removed, tagged, etc. whatever the underlying technical reason is, it’s clunky and annoying. Roon should recognize that it’s the same song and allow these actions to be performed. Here is a screenshot from the issue taken from the song playing as I type this. It’s not something that happens occasionally, it happens most tracks.
Here’s a slightly different example of this problem. Listened to this track, added it to my library, and get this screen when I try to then add it to a tag:
I would say Roon wants you to open the album and add it from there, not from the Now Playing screen. I don’t fool with individual tracks, only albums, so I have no personal experience with it.
EDIT: This is not a work around, it’s how it works. Also, you have to remove tags before deleting a track or album, I think. At least that’s my experience with deleting albums.
Roon works the way it works, not always the way you wish it worked.
I appreciate that there is a work around, but I wanted the Roon team to be aware that from my perspective as a user this comes off as clunky at best, and buggy at worst. Why can I add this track to a playlist, but not add to a tag, or even remove it from my library?
My mixes is accessed from Tidals api section and not from your library and for some reason Roons always has a disconnect from these sections to what’s in your Roon library. Albums in there that don’t show as being in your library even though they are you can add them but they don’t show as being part of it when you return to same album in that section. I wonder if same mechanism is in play for playing from playlists and because it’s using the direct api and not Roon underlying library this if the problem.
That’s an interesting idea, 90% of my listening is from Tidal, so that would help explain why this issue is so pervasive for me. That said, the last screen shot was a song I searched for and had just added to my collection, so Tidal my mixes were not involved. So perhaps it’s related to Tidal overall?
