Can’t get ARC working on my Asus ZenWiFi AX6600

@josh_rosner, the diagnostics you’ve provided suggest that UPnP is not properly configured on your router.

Please first try the following steps:

  • Try to enable UPnP/NATPMP in the web administration interface for the router directly upstream from your Core
  • Try to manually open the port in your router’s port forwarding configuration
  • Make sure the IP/Port matches the Port listed in Roon → Settings → ARC
  • Check for any VPNs or Firewalls that might be interfering
  • Check if your modem is in Bridge mode

If you continue to experience difficulties, please tag the support team and include the following information:

  1. Do you have any additional network hardware, like additional routers or managed switches?
  2. Who is your internet service provider and what is your geographic region?
  3. Is your Modem configured in Bridge Mode so that it operates only as a modem or do you have the ports forwarded on both?

Thanks Robert, I’m feeling really dumb. I tried everything and still no luck. Not sure how to tag support.

My provider is Spectrum (NY)
My modem is a Hitron d3.1 2.5g emta

Thank you Josh. Have you tried turning on UPnP on your ASUS router? This is located under the ASUS web administration page WAN → Internet Connection? Does this work, and if not, what error message do you receive in Settings → Roon ARC?

If this does not work, can you deactivate UPnP on the ASUS router, and then create a port forwarding on the ASUS router in the WAN → Virtual Server/Port Forwarding page? A TCP rule forwarding to the LAN IP address of your Roon Core, and using the port number listed in the Settings → Roon ARC tab, is what is needed to be created.

I opened upnp and nat on the router and then checked the connection in the roon app and got the following message:

{
“ipv4_connectivity”: {“status”:“Success”,“status_code”:200,“error”:“”},
“external_ip”: {“actual_external_ip”:“74.aaa.bbb.ccc”,“actual_external_ipv6”:“null”,“router_external_ip”:“74.aaa.bbb.ccc”},
“natpmp_autoconfig”: {“status”:“NotFound”},
“upnp_autoconfig”: {“server_ip”:“192.168.50.6”,“found_upnp”:true}
}

I also tried port forwarding using the “listening port” in the roon app and the IP above but that didn’t work either.

I tried port forwarding again but received the following

{
“ipv4_connectivity”: {“status”:“NetworkError”,“status_code”:504,“error”:“error: Error: ETIMEDOUT, response code: undefined, body: undefined connected? undefined”},
“external_ip”: {“actual_external_ip”:“74.aaa.bbb.ccc”,“actual_external_ipv6”:“null”,“router_external_ip”:“null”},
“natpmp_autoconfig”: {“status”:“NotFound”},
“upnp_autoconfig”: {“server_ip”:“192.168.50.1”,“found_upnp”:true,“error”:“doaction request return statuscode: UnknownError”}
}

Can you post a screenshot of your port forwarding rule on your ASUS router? Your last two error messages have different “server_ip” IP addresses, the first error message has a 192.168.50.1 address (assumed to be the ASUS router) and the second error message has a 192.168.50.6 address (is this the address of the Roon Core?).

Thanks. I believe two edits are required in the ASUS port forwarding configuration tab:

  1. Remove the Internal Port number (not needed)
  2. Remove the Source IP address. This is used only when accessing a known IP address outside your home, which is not needed by or for ARC.
  3. The Internal IP address should the IP address of your Roon Core server.

HOLY CRAP!! You are the best (and amazingly patient with an idiot like me). I can’t begin to thank you enough. As a non tech person I guess I automatically assume more info is better. THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!! You have made my day!!!
