Hi.
I’ve just installed Ubuntu and then Roon onto a new Beelink mini PC. Everything seems to be running normally except for when I try to add a network storage folder to Roon. The drive is a networked shared folder on an Innuos Zenith MkIII server and the odd thing is, is that I am able to access and see all the files on the drive in the Ubuntu file app, but Roon notes “You can specify a directory in the share location as well, but it will be ignored.” I also have a couple of Synology NASs and I can’t add then either, so it’s not just the Zenith. I can access my streaming service perfectly and in all other regards Roon is working normally.
Has anybody come across this problem before? It’s driving me crazy.
Many thanks in advance.
Greg
Your screenshot is missing username and password as well as an error message. Can you try again with username and password and then share a screen of the window again, showing the error Roon displays as explanation why it could not mount the share please?
The red text, „You can specify…“ is not an error, it’s just informational. It means that only network shares can be mounted here, and you can’t directly mount folders that may exist on the host machine below the network share. This is normal.
What happens if you click the Add network share button?
Hmm. When I click on the Add network share button, it brings up the identical page again, complete with completed fields as they were. I have a number of network shared directories and folders on my home network, and all other devices have no trouble connecting to them. The //zenith/music shared folder has been my default storage folder for quite a while and is accessible from all the other devices including Roon server running on a windows 11 laptop. Why it should just this installation I cannot guess.
Can you connect to the share in Ubuntu outside of Roon? E.g., from the Nautilus file manager or by mounting the SMB share manually in a terminal?
And I suppose your Roon client is running under WINE. Maybe there are extra steps needed. I’m not even sure if that’s expected to work at all, as it’s not a supported configuration. It’s possible that you first have to mount the SMB share in Ubuntu and then access the local mountpoint from within WINE.
Yes, the form is identical. It doesn’t matter what I type in the fields, it comes back instantly with the page I just completed, complete with red message.
I’m afraid that I’m not very familiar with Ubuntu, although I’ve used Roon for about 3 years now, running on a Windows PC, a completely different Ubuntu PC and the Innuos Zenith itself (a bit too underpowered to make the most of Roon, hence the change to a dedicated Roon server).
I installed Ubuntu on a clean new mini PC, and tested it by accessing all my networked drives, NAS etc. All well. I then installed the recommended ffmpeg, cifs-utils and lbzip2 and then the Linux version of Roon (roonserver-installer-linuxx64.sh). I didn’t see any mention of WINE. All seems to be well, except for the inability to connect a shared music folder. I can access the folder via Nautilus file manager, but not Roon. It’s probably something really simple, but I’m damned if I can see it.
Hi again. I think I may be on to something here, and it has nothing to do with Roon. I forgot to mention that I’m running a mesh wifi system here and I suspect the problem lies with my network and address allocation. I shall investigate further. Meanwhile, many thanks for your ideas.
You said you installed Ubuntu and then Roon. So I thought that you are running the Roon GUI client on the Ubuntu machine, which requires WINE as there is not native GUI client for Linux.
However, the file above is just the Roon Server, which does run natively on Linux.
So where are you running the GUI client, I can’t see that you mentioned that
Yes, just the Roon server on the linux pc. The Roon client GUI runs on both an ipad and on a windows laptop. Both connect happily to the linux Roon server.
