I have 2 artists Caribou, mixed up, apparently different, or wrong.
this one (age 46?)
and this one (age 20?? and different birth place)
but both the bios redirect to Dan Snaith

I noticed the same and it’s only just happened.
Someone at TiVo seems to have missed that they already had a Caribou with a TiVo bio and created a second one (with ridiculous birth date). The Wikipedia page is connected to just one of them.
Caribou releases like Swim now have both of the Caribou credits, one of them for vocals and one of them for the other credits
The confusion lies in the fact that there are 3 elements to Caribou:
The Roon Dan Snaith entry has the Wikipedia entry for Dan Snaith and no TiVo entry.
The Roon Caribou entry with a birth date of 2004 has the TiVo entry for the Caribou project and no Wikipedia entry.
The other Roon Caribou entry has the TiVo entry for Manitoba and the Wikipedia entry for Dan Snaith.
Basically it’s a mess!
Oh @joel your services are required
I found that there are two more but if in doubt both of these should probably be kept separate
One of them has “Suite for Dolly Sods” in the Discography. There is little about this album online. Discogs does not have it, Spotify and Tidal have it under a separate Caribou (not the Dan Snaith one) but last.fm claims that it is Dan Snaith:
From the sound of it I’d guess it might not be Dan Snaith, but who knows, maybe he had a weird phase.
The other additional Caribou has 2 current singles, Big 18 and and The Crack. Discogs has neither (and there are all in all 8 Caribou on Discogs), but unless Dan Snaith is now in a pop-punk band, this is probably not it
The plot thickens!!!
I’ve done few things to try and sort this out:
I’ve asked TiVo to fix that incorrect birth date for Caribou. It’s actually the date when he was forced, for legal reasons, to change his name from Manitoba, but it’s still an error.
I’ve also suggested that they consider merging their Manitoba and Caribou entries, though I don’t think that they will. They will need to preserve their Manitoba entry to ensure the correct album artist name on his pre-re-issued Manitoba releases.
I’ve made a couple of edits Roon-side which will hopefully clean things up anyway.
Please note that Dan Snaith will continue to exist as a separate artist in our database and be linked to from those TiVo biographies. You are, of course, free to perform an artist merge should you wish.
I may be dense, but if they want to preserve their Manitoba entry why don’t they name it Manitoba? And if one of the Caribous is really meant to be Manitoba, then why are they both credited on post name change releases? This makes no sense:
They did, but the evidence (credit reference counts and biographic details) pointed to our equivalencing TiVo’s Manitoba and MusicBrainz’s Caribou.
So what you are getting is Manitoba credited as Caribou + a separate Caribou credit. Remember that he re-released his Manitoba albums under his new name, so those albums are grouped together in our database.
It gets tricky with multiple metadata sources which don’t handle name changes and performer aliases in the same way.
Thank you!
This is now looking surprisingly good (to me at least) on our servers. Please note that it will take up to a week for the new metadata to be pulled into your library (if you already have Caribou content there).
Looking good @joel
But, on the screenshot it shows the Manitoba artist which is the one I believe made him change his name to Caribou.
Sigh! I’ve emailed TiVo again.
This is actually not the artist who forced his name change. As per the TiVo biography:
Dictators frontman Handsome Dick Manitoba sued for trademark infringement (despite the passing of 15 years since the only material under his name, a 1990 LP as by Manitoba’s Wild Kingdom).
From TiVo:
A new Manitoba [Italian Duo] name has been created and credits have been sorted. This change should become available for you soon.
I expect the Caribou discography to update within a couple of days.
