Certain files have Mangled Metadata when imported

I’m trying out Roon. Successfully imported the vast majoring of mu Apple Music libraries - however one completion if songs (downloads not from CD) are consistently mangled on on imported. Some of the tracks preserving their names - other loosing the name and just being referred to a “Track XX” - the songs get split in a a rand subgroups etc etc. The files and data look perfect in Apple Music and when exported from Music to a filesystem.

Restarted and purged / reinstalled everything - no change! Ideas appreciated

Basically the roon team monitor support more than other areas so if you have a question put it in there

To start, let me go over how Identification works in Roon so you can better understand. Identification is the process of Roon matching your files to data that we have about an album. This allows us to provide the rich data that you see in most of the albums you’ve imported. Identification relies on a number of factors to be done correctly, including the file tags of your media.

In the screenshot you shared above, it looks like Roon was not able to properly identify the album. It’s possible that this is because Roon doesn’t have the data for this album or because Roon wasn’t able to match the album to one in our database.

To clarify, are these individual tracks that don’t belong in an album? Or is this an actual album but just not displaying correctly. This will determine the proper next steps here.

Another thing to note is that, in the cases where Roon can’t identify your media, having good file data is important. This includes folder structure, file names, and file tag data. The better the data from your files, the better things will appear in Roon.

Hi Dylan,

Correct - the files are not source from one album - but from downloads from an Artist I support on Patreon. The filename names are clean (see attached) - but the files are different formats - WAV, AIFF and MP3. But even for two AIFF files - ROON creates then differently - (see OK / not OK arrows in text file).

Ideas???

Hi @richard_nicholson,

Can you check the file tags and share a screenshot of the tags for one of these tracks? You can use software like MP3Tag to do this.

OK I got there! I used XLD to look at the files - same issue. So edited the metadata there and re-transcoded.

Probably rather heavy weight
