Cleaning out the dust from an Intel NUC

Following on from this thread which is now closed:

NUC running hot and noisy [Resolved - blow the dust from the fan]

Usually a strip down and a can of compressed air… try and google fan cleaning on NUC 7i7BNH https://communities.intel.com/thread/114068 The idea is to blow out the dust from the fan and also the cooling fins of the Heatsinks on the cpu…try not to spin the fan a million rpm when doing do, a quick spin is ok but remember the bearings are not designed to spin at turbo speed that the compressed air can achieve. Might help for the disassembly part while not the same model the principal is similar …

Is it recommended to hold the fan to stop from spinning at all, while using an air duster?

I’m happy to open the NUC but not sure how much further dis-assembly is required to get in there for a good air dusting?

How did you do it @thyname . Was there any particular angle that worked better to get the most dust out? And how many cans did you need? A couple?

And any other tricks to it, that avoid potential damage.

Just one can. And not used in full.

Turn it off, and blow through all vents. That’s all I did. Not scientific at all
