Configuration Lumin L2 storage access

A friend has asked me to post this question, any help would be appreciated.

How do I configure Roon to access music stored on a Lumin L2 music server/switch.

I have tried using its IP address and name \LUMIN-L2-MUSIC\public.

Both work until router allocates a different IP address to L2. This has happened several times including during mid music play back where sound just stopped and all tracks scanned and showing in Roon disappeared.

Scanning LAN showed IP address change.

Q.How do I connect Roon Core NUC for optimum performance i.e. direct to router, to a network switch or direct to Lumin L2 server/switch

Thank you & most appreciated

Why not simply configure a reserved IP address on the router for the Lumin? Then it won’t change and I guess the issue won’t happen.

(Arguably, the Lumin shouldn’t lose connection if the router does change the address, but the above should provide a simple workaround)

Please go into router settings, and reserve an IP address for L2 in its DHCP reservation table.

The network mount point should use IP address in the format of

smb://L2.ip.address/public

Thanks, I’ll pass that on and see what he can do… I appreciate the help

Peter,

On a Windows 10 PC with Roon, Roon can connect to the L2 using either the IP Address or Name. However, on a Windows 11 PC Roon cannot see the L2. Is this because of different SMB settings? (Just a guess)

If you experience Windows error when accessing Lumin L2 with Windows 11 24H2 or newer, please disable Windows firewall, and follow Point 6 and Point 7 of this article:

Accessing a third-party NAS with SMB in Windows 11 24H2 may fail | Microsoft Community Hub

Changes to SMB security in Windows 11 24H2 release preview may prevent access to third party NAS appliances or other devices.

*6. Disable the SMB client signing requirement:

a. On the Start Menu search, type gpedit and start the Edit Group Policy app (i.e. Local Group Policy Editor). If you are using Home edition, skip to step 8.

b. In the console tree, select Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings> Local Policies > Security Options.

c. Double-click Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always).

d. Select Disabled > OK.

*7. Disable the guest fallback protection:

a. On the Start Menu search, type gpedit and start the Edit Group Policy app (i.e. Local Group Policy Editor). If you are using Home edition, skip to step e.

b. In the console tree, select Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates> Network > Lanman Workstation.

c. Double-click Enable insecure guest logons

d. Select Enabled > OK.

If it still does not work, please e-mail to info@luminmusic.com I’ll find responsible personnel to follow up.

Lumin is always on top of things! Thanks @wklie!

Thanks, Peter.

I followed the instructions and I now have the option of using the L2 with Roon / Windows 11.

Again, Many Thanks.
