Connect to different server to the one found

Hi,

I sometimes need to connect to a different Core to the one on my local network. I do this by setting up a VPN into the remote site.

When i open the Roon software on my PC it always finds the Core that is local to my network (which is exactly what i would expect it to do) but there doesnt appear to be any way to select the “Connect To A Different Core” that used to be available.

The only way ive found around this is to turn off the core on my local network so that i can get far enough though to type the IP address of the remote core.

What am i missing please?

Thanks
Charlie

Hi Brian,

Yep get all this.

Click Disconnect, then when you get the screen asking to “Choose Your Roon Core”, how do i connect to a different core than the one it suggests?

In this image i dont want to connect to “Tower @ 192.168.4.81”, but a different core over a VPN @ 192.168.1.121.

Thanks

This is not supported. All devices need to be on the same network (192.168.4.XXX from your example). See also: Why can’t Roon Remote Connect?

Not sure what you mean. I do it all the time and it works perfectly, and there is even a place to type in the IP address of the Core you want to talk to.

Its just a case of how to get to that menu when its discovered a differnent core already on your network?

You already found the solution:

And again: it’s not officially supported. You may be able to connect to the other/remote Core but playback to your (local) endpoints might not be possible.

Tks for responding on this @BlackJack, but is the above link as you intended? It points to 1.7 release.

Thanks for spotting this. Now corrected.

We’re a registered Roon Dealer.

This is the only solution to be able to offer any sort of remote support to our clients who have paid Roon for their software (and most commonly hardware in the form of Nucleus) but need direct support. Not trying to stream music to any (local or remote) endpoint.

Always used to be an option to “Choose A Different Core”, but that appears to have been removed…
