Welcome to the Roon-atic club Linn owner here, currently only Klimax, but I owned a Selekt before. Looking at Roon’s list of Roon Ready devices, I see that the Selekt is Roon Ready now. Make sure you have it on the latest Linn firmware, which you can check with the Linn app. Then, on the Roon app, go to Settings (cogwheel icon), and select the “Audio” tab. Scrolling down the tab, you should see an entry for your Selekt, which you can then enable and name to your liking. You should see something like (minus redacting)
Hi Fernando. Thank you I will try that later. Just another question. I see in the app store (iMac) there are different Roon apps. Which one should I install? Many thanks
Gareth
Hi again. I’ve tried but the app but it won’t let me go past the first page and is stuck 'Looking for your Roon Server. I have activated the Roon Ready on the selekt, but no joy! Thanks. This is using the Roon Remote app. I tried Roon Remote (Legacy) but it won’t even let me sign in??
Can you clarify: are you trying to add the Linn to an already working Roon system, or are you trying to set up both Roon and a connection to the Linn from scratch?
Right, so you mentioned that you had installed the Roon app on your iMac. This is actually two components - the Roon GUI (control and user interface) and the Roon Server.
Is the Roon Server actually running? (because you said that the Roon GUI was “looking for your Roon Server”).
See:
Addendum: If your Roon Server is indeed running, but the Roon GUI still can’t connect, please check your Firewall settings on your iMac:
Hi Geoff. Thanks for that. I don’t think the Roon server is running. I’m including some photos which might help. Maybe I shouldn’t install on my Mac as I will be controlling the Linn Selekt with my iPhone via the Linn app…I think? Sorry all this is new to me.
First pic of my mac, second mac wifi, and third my Selekt. I don’t have firewall enabled.
OK - you are setting up Roon for the very first time, so what that first screenshot is asking is: where do you want your Roon Server to be.
Since presumably you do not have a Roon Server running on a separate Nucleus or ROCK device, you want to use the Roon Server that has been installed on your iMac - so you click the “Use this Mac” button.
You will then go through screens that will help you set up your Roon system and import any local music you have. You can also integrate a streaming service into Roon (e.g. Qobuz or Tidal) if you have a subscription.
But one question: does your iMac have an ethernet (wired) connection to your network, or is it WiFi only? A Roon Server really should have a wired connection…
Ok I think I’m getting it. Re ethernet. No it’s connected via WiFi. The Selekt is connected too the wifi box via ethernet, which is recommended it only has one port. My iMac is upstairs and the Selekt is downstairs, so that’s difficult. I could set up roon on my mac book downstairs but that would be a bit of a pain to connect the laptop every time I want to listen to music. It’s strange that linn doesn’t mention all this in the literature. I was assuming that the selekt with my phone would be all I need, like Tidal & Qobuz. The wifi is quick here about 800mbs but it would be slower if my iMac is upstairs. Hmmmm…complicated. I appreciate all you help.
If your Mac Book downstairs has a wired connection, then it would be better to have Roon Server running there. The Roon GUI on your iMac could then connect to the Roon Server on your Mac Book over the network via WiFi…
The USP of Roon is that it is a client server architecture that can be spread over a network. See:
Thanks Geoff. I’ll give that a try. It might all be a bit too much hassle as streaming Qobuz or Tidal is pretty painless. The only reason I wanted to try Roon is for the curated playlists which are not so good (once a week) on Qobuz, which I’m using more than Tidal now. Also I spent quite a lot on an ethernet cable to The Selekt so it would mean extra expense if I wanted a second quality cable. Thanks for all your help. Best Gareth
