Hi @abdoabdala,

Thanks for sharing your report and all the detailed information so far! Our team was able to review a fresh diagnostic report from your Roon Server, and can confirm you are unfortunately experiencing a known issue. Here’s the tracking thread where we’ll be posting any updates:

The good news is our team is already aware of the issue, and have a priority ticket in to get a fix working. I’m sorry I don’t have any immediate next steps for you.

To keep things organized, I’ll go ahead and close this thread for now - any updates to the issue will be posted to the thread I’ve linked above. Certainly, let me know if you have any questions in the meantime. :+1:

Thank you for trying to resolve the issue. I just don’t understand why you come here now, after days of discussing it and you’re reading all this, and then you say you’re going to close the topic and say you’re working on a solution without any deadline. I think it’s disrespectful, it just makes me understand that you don’t want to be exposed to problems that you haven’t been able to resolve for months.

Now they want to close the topic in less than 24 hours… THIS IS ABSURD!!! AFTER RECOGNISING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM.

And to effectively merge it with this one, to make management tidier - surely?

It’s already been explained that it is a known issue they are working on and even included the relevant thread and told you that is where further updates and discussions will take place.
I consider that very reasonable and all you need to do is follow that thread from now on.
It makes little sense to keep updating multiple threads with the exact same information.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Before the topic is closed, I would like to thank Mike_O_Neill in particular.
In the past few days, with the help of Mp3tag, I have added “Various Artists” to the AlbumArtist tag in a large number of compilation albums. Last night, I had 6938 albums in the display and no album without a cover! Thank you.
This is a workaround that could easily have been published by roon itself.

But questions still remain: (And the examples are really just a small selection)

  • Why is the album “Home.s” by Esbjörn Svensson a compilation? (He is the only artist and also the composer of all the titles.)
  • Why is the album “The Complete Nocturnes” by Gergely Boganyi a compilation? (Boganyi is the only artist and Chopin the only composer)
  • Why is the album “Buena Vista Social Club at Carnegie Hall” a compilation? (Recorded in one day at a single concert. The BVSC studio album, however, is not.)
  • Why is "Symphony No. 3, Overtures (1959), Berlin Philharmonic under Rudolf Kempe a compilation?

Whatever. There is room for improvement - especially when roon says “The error only occurs in collections with a large number of compilation albums.”

Have a nice weekend everyone.

All albums that have different artists per track should be tagged with “Various Artists” or some similarly accurate label (“The Company” or “Sound of Music Cast”) in the “Album Artist” tag.

If an album has multiple “Album Artist” tags, any software is capable of getting confused.

The basic question is this: What should Roon list for “Album Artist” for an album that, for some reason, has multiple? That is why the setting for Compilations to show as “Various Artists” exists. But what if something isn’t considered a compilation? I think Roon should simply use the Album Artist for the first track of the album OR the Album Artist for the majority of tracks on the album, and be done with it. It is then up to the music collector to decide what to do next.
