I have been digging into HQplayer and have it up and running, and it’s fun to tinker with. For my use case, the Cyan2 may be a better fit than the Yggdrasil+ GS*(a1 board)* that I currently have; it’s still in the return window for a few more days.
Most of what I listen to are DJ sets, and I can only get 44.1 or 44.8 Lossless, the rest is 256 AAC at 48000. Computer power for HQplayer is a non-issue.
I feel like I fell into the HQplayer rabbit hole trying to lift this material up. I do really like the Yggdrasil, but I am wondering if I could get a little more pushing it all into DSD with a larger up-sample.
Cyan 2 is certainly a good option. And you get two DACs in one box, both PCM and DSD. So you can also run it in PCM, but at higher rate than what Yggdrasil does internally.
I have the Yggdrasil OG. You can influence the sound somewhat with HQP but the experience and flexibility of HQP really comes into its own when you can remove and go NOS (no filter) at the DAC.
I think you can turn your Yggy into a NOS DAC? I forget what models they enabled that on. I cannot so I don’t use HQP with my Yggy.
In of their more recent DAC models that is possible. However, it is limited to max 192k inputs, as their USB module doesn’t support higher input rates, unfortunately…
Yes, I have NOS on mine, and I also have a Bifrost2 that has NOS that I got with a firmware upgrade.
Is it better to layer the Yggy upsampling with the HQplayer 192 input or run NOS
If I do run NOS what is the Yggy giving me over the NOS Biforst2
I understand the Cyan is two days in one, I guess I am trying to figure out what is the best solution for not-great source data. Its not pop thet is a wall of sound but its not Hires and a lot of what I have is lossy.
Thanks again!
