DietPi - Roon server - Some questions

Have now been doing some test with HDMI, but so far no sound at all on HDMI audio output.

As I was using NUC10 with ROCK if worked just fine with HDMI0

Happy new year

Torben

Have you enabled any of them? I don’t connect directly to my servers so probably can’t help further.

Yes  Have done a test with all of them (enabled) but no sound.
With Rock (HDMI0) it worked fine

Torben

Did you enable the HD Audio driver in Dietpi Config?

As Simon mentioned you have to enable HD Audio in the dietpi-config app and I think reboot, it’s almost a year since I did it, but I vaguely remember having issues with this, and I did some googling to find that answer. You still end up with several devices

It was also important for me to limit my output to my Sonos ARC to get audio out as below, but this may not be required for you.

I think I have

Just logged onto my machine and it is set to default, (which is the same as yours if I dig into it) (after ALSA is installed).
Can you check that in Software that ALSA [5] is installed? (which it should be or I would not expect to see these as I see you now posted a screen shot).

On mine only HDMI0 works, but I guess that could be different for each device. I also get no music if I leave it at 32 bits and 96 as per my screen shot above.

It is:

Also, further to this topic about audio via the HDMI connection, I’d be interested to know whether it supports multichannel, or only stereo.

I seem to recall that at one time, multichannel was not supported, but that may have been in DietPi on a RPi…

That was the case with Rock - only HDMI0 was working. But under DietPi (Roon Server) there is no HDMI0

Torben

Geoff multi channel works great for me

Have you tried reducing the setting of the maximum capabilities? (That’s what gets me audio output, but it is endpoint dependent and Sonos is limited to 24/48)

I posted my response before you posted your screenshot showing it processing

Your HDMi 0 appears to have Sony TV connected to it looking at your screen grab. Did you change that name?

No, did not change anything there. The Sony TV is just connected to my Linn (ARC)

Torben

Well that has changed so maybe try that one as it may have picked up something when it was connected. What are you connecting it to then?

Try reducing it as shown in my screen shots as HDMI sometimes has a limitation (like the Sonos) and does not work at any higher.

Just give that a try, reducing output down to 24/48

Done that - no sound.

Torben

Sort of out of ideas sorry.
I will think back to what else caused issues with mine, as I had to try a few things to get audio output working when I moved from Rock to DietPi, but it has worked great since I got the settings right

Big THANKS @Michael_Harris

Torben

You are right  It don’t say HDMI0, but it seems to be HDMI0. Just did a test, and it works just fine
